B. Directions: Find the constant variation (k), given that y varies directly as x and inversely as z.
1. y = 12 ; x = 3 ; z = 8
2. y = 10 ; x = 5 ; z = 1
3. y = 168; x = 4 ; z = 6
1. The cost of meat varies directly as the number of kilos bought. If the cost of meat is 140 Php per kilogram,
how much is the cost of meat for 5 kilograms?
2. The rate of the running water through a pipe varies directly as the square of the radius of the pipe, if the rate
of running water is 200 cm per second when the radius of the pipe is 4 cm, what is the rate of running water
when the radius of the pipe is 5 cm?
3. The Voltage varies inversely as the current. If the voltage is 110 volts when I is 5 amperes, what is the current
when the voltage is 220 volts?
4. The cost of operating an appliance varies jointly as the number of watts of the appliance, the number of hours
per operation, and the cost per kilowatt-hour. At Php 1.75 per kilowatt-hour how much would it cost to
operate a 500-watt waffle iron in 45 minutes?
5. The current varies directly as the electromotive force and inversely as the resistance. If in a system a current
of 20 amperes flows through a resistance of 20 ohms with an electromotive of 100 volts, find the current that
150 volts will send through the system.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also
are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for
one another.”
John 13:34-35
The four types of variations are Direct, Inverse, Joint and Combine. As each type has its own
distinct kind of relationship with respect to its variables/quantities and the constant. As God as the
constant of every relationship that we have. Choose one type of variation (relationship) and express
it as you are one of the variables. You may express your relationship through A song, drawing,
symbol or poem. An explanation of 2 to 3 sentences for drawing and symbol is required.

Integral exponents
If n is a positive integer, then 𝑥 𝑛 = x ∙ x ∙ x ∙x ∙ x … . x
Laws of Exponents:
Law of exponent for a product: For any number a , and any positive integers m and n,
𝑎𝑚 . 𝑎𝑛 = 𝑎𝑚+𝑛
To get the product of the powers with the same base just copy the base and add the exponents.
Example:
1. 𝑥 4 . 𝑥 5 = 𝑥 4+5 = 𝑥 9
2. 5𝑥 3 . 4𝑥 9 = (5 ∗ 4)𝑥 2+9 = 20𝑥11
Law of exponent for a power: For any number a , and any positive integers m , n, & p.

𝟑. √ √𝒙 = √𝒙
Example:
5 3 15
𝑎. √ √3 = √3
3 3
𝑏. √ √𝑥 9 = 𝑥
4 5 20 20
𝑐. √ √𝑥 53 𝑦 39 𝑧 60 = √𝑥 53 𝑦 39 𝑧 60 = 𝑥 2 𝑦𝑧 3 √𝑥13 𝑦19
Radicals are in its simplified form if there are no radical symbols in the denominator.
𝒏
𝒏 𝒙 √𝒙
From the 2nd law of radical, 𝟐. √𝒚 = 𝒏
√𝒚
if the radicand of the denominator has no perfect root, to simplify we should rationalize it.
Example:
3 √3 √3 √7 √21 √8 √4 𝑥 2 2 √2 √3𝑥 2√6𝑥
1. √7 = = 𝑥 = 2. = = 𝑥 =
√7 √7 √7 7 √3𝑥 √3𝑥 √3𝑥 √3𝑥 3𝑥
