Paragliding is a sport that originated in the late 20th century as mountaineers wanted to fly down from peaks using parachutes. It involves flying under a lightweight fabric wing like a pendulum without an engine. Pilots are equipped with safety gear like helmets and emergency parachutes as well as instruments like variometers and GPS. Paragliders can take off by being towed by cable and released, with the pilot controlling the glide. Ecuador offers paragliding opportunities with beautiful landscapes providing a feeling of unique freedom.

Paragliding is a sport that was born in the late twentieth century because mountaineers who

wanted to fly down by parachute from the peaks that had climbed.

It is lighter than the wind, so you can plan and fly without an engine, the pilot flies sitting
under and away from the wing like a pendulum, there are no rigid parts that make up the wing
and it is made of a special waterproof fabric

The weight of the whole team is usually around 15-20 kg. The pilot and occasionally the
paragliding passenger will be equipped with the mandatory safety equipment, helmets and
emergency parachutes, and with various electronic instruments: variometer or altivario, GPS
and equipment of radio.

Another possible way for the paraglider to take off is to control it by giving tension to a cable.
This is hooked into the harness by means of a quick release system, which the pilot will
operate. It is a typical type of flight of plains (especially in deserts, where the highest altitudes
are reached)

Ecuador has several alternatives for the practice of paragliding, destinations with wonderful
landscapes in which you can get closer to that feeling of unique freedom.

This sector is located south east of Quito, on the new Eastern route. The flight days are not
regular, but generally they are Saturdays and Sundays and the lunar calendar and the days
after heavy rains are usually used to organize the flights.

This is a thermodynamic zone where paragliders gather every weekend. To start the first thing
that must be done is to review the equipment so that everything is in order. You can take
advantage of the hillside to the left (north) of the takeoff, the walls and tips often release small
but powerful thermals; if it is windy these are usually cut off and the flight can be turbulent. In
this place you can experience two modalities: cross-country, and competition; In addition, a
normal flight can reach 50 km / h speed
