Think and Grow Rich [Complete] Notes

Chapter 1:

Lessons from “Three Feet From Gold”:

Before success, you may experience temporary defeat and some failure. You can either give up
or keep “drilling”.
Over 500 hundred of the most successful men of that time said their greatest success came one
step beyond the point that defeat had overtaken them.

A fifty-cent lesson in persistence:

A black girl stood and stayed persistent in asking for 50 cents for her mom. Eventually after
getting 2 NO’s and about to get hit, she stayed put and demanded it again. It was given to her.
Even when things get hard or people reject you, you continue moving forward in your goal.
Analyze failures and success to gain lessons that you can use.

Success conscious:

Mankind’s biggest fault is his obsession with “impossible”. He thinks about what will not work,
but rarely does he focus on what is possible.
Change your attention to things that are possible. When you imagine, you imagine things that
can happen.
Personal analogy: Doubting the possibility of an achievement is like saying a gun has no bullets
before checking the chamber.

How Henry Ford Did the “Impossible”:

Ford decided to produce the v-8 motor and was told by his engineers that it was impossible.
“Go ahead.” “Stay on the job until you succeed no matter how much time is required.”

After six months. Nothing happened.

Another six months passed and still nothing happened. The engineers told him again that it was
impossible.

Ford said again, “Go right ahead.” “I want it, and I’ll have it.”

They went again and suddenly the secret to the v-8 motor was discovered.

Determination.
Chapter 2:

How Barnes thought his way into partnership with Thomas Edison:

Deep desire: When a man really DESIRES a thing so deeply that he is willing to stake his entire future on a
single turn of the wheel in order to get it, he is sure to win.-page 9
Definite goal: To work with Edison as an equal partner. Not for Edison.
Obsession: “….came here to go into business with Edison, and I’ll acomplish this if it takes the
remainder of my life.”
Determination: He stood by his desire until it came to fruition.
Belief: “He was the partner of Edison every minute of the time, from the very day that he first
went to work there."
Cut out all other options. (No plan B) "There is but ONE thing in this world that I
am determined to have, and that is a business association with Thomas A. Edison. I will burn
all bridges behind me, and stake my ENTIRE FUTURE on my ability to get what I want."

"Barnes succeeded because he chose a definite goal, placed all his energy, all his will power, all his
effort, everything back of that goal."-Page 15

The process to turn desire into riches: (Can be used to achieve any goal)

1. Be definite in the amount.

2. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire.
3. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
4. Create a plan for carrying out your desire and start at once.
5. Write all of this out on a piece of paper.
6. Read your written statement out loud twice everyday. In the morning and before bed.
7. See and feel and believe yourself to already be in possession of this money as your read the
written statement.

These steps were said to be approved by Thomas Edison AND they came from Andrew
Carnegie himself.

Lessons from this chapter:

Tolerance and an open mind are necessary to become a dreamer that can fulfill his
dreams.
Marconi, Lincoln, the Wright Brothers, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Colombus,
Copernicus all men had dreams which they believed were possible and stayed
determined until the dream came true.
The greatest achievements were at first only but a dream in the mind.
Hope, faith, courage, tolerance.
Closed minds are bad because they do not inspire faith, courage, or belief in dreams.
There is a difference between "wishing" and being “ready". One can only switch from
wishing to being ready when he believes he can accomplish something.

Desire Outwits Mother Nature:

A child was born without any physical sing of ears. The doctor said he would be deaf and
mute for life. Through a BURNING DESIRE from his father, they acquired a victrola and the
father was able to transfer to his son’s mind a desire to hear and speak. The father framed
the negative into a positive by telling him that people would pay him extra money for
whatever he sold because he was bright and industrious despite having no ears. Then the
boy believed this and used it to his advantage, one day he came home having sold many
newspapers. Then one day the boy's burning desire led him to a new invention that allowed
him to hear normally. Finally, his faith in the “impossible” and burning desire allowed him to
hear normally for the first time.

His new burning desire became helping people all across the world who were deaf. He
traveled to the factory that created the invention and for a whole month he carried on intense
research in order to analyze the marketing system to create ways to get the invention all over
the world. In the end, he succeeded in helping millions of people who had a hard time
hearing.

If it wasn't for the belief and faith that it was possible and the burning desire to make it
happen. He wouldn’t have saved himself and millions of other people.

“Desire backed by faith knows no such word as impossible.”-page 20

Chapter 3:

How To develop faith and strengthen your thoughts:

1. Affirmations and autosuggestion because thoughts that are repeatedly passed on to

your mind will eventually be accepted as the truth and acted upon.
2. Act as if you already had something because it helps your subconscious mind have
faith that it’s happening and thus giving you the resources to accomplish it.
3. Combine your dream thoughts with emotions (it can be emotions of faith, love, or sex)
to amplify their effectiveness.

How to build self confidence and greater self reliance and an attitude for success:

Write down and sign your name to the following formula. Also, repeat aloud once a day
with full FAITH that it will influence you to become more confidence, self reliant, and
successful.

________

First. I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my Definite Purpose in life,
therefore, I DEMAND of myself persistent, continuous action toward its attainment, and I
here and now promise to render such action.

Second. I realize the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually reproduce themselves
in outward, physical action, and gradually transform themselves into physical reality,
therefore, I will concentrate my thoughts for thirty minutes daily, upon the task of thinking of
the person I intend to become, thereby creating in my mind a clear mental picture of that
person.

Third. I know through the principle of auto-suggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in
my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the
object back of it, therefore, I will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the
development of SELF-CONFIDENCE.

Fourth. I have clearly written down a description of my DEFINITE CHIEF AIM in life, and
I will never stop trying, until I shall have developed sufficient self-confidence for its
attainment.

Fifth. I fully realize that no wealth or position can long endure, unless built upon truth and
justice, therefore, I will engage in no transaction which does not benefit all whom it affects. I
will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use, and the cooperation of other
people. I will induce others to serve me, because of my willingness to serve others. I will
eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism, by developing love for all
humanity, because I know that a negative attitude toward others can never bring me success.
I will cause others to believe in me, because I will believe in them, and in myself.

________

Autosuggestion explained:
Repeating thoughts again and again until your subconscious mind invariably believes them to be true.

Example:
Medical history are filled with cases of “suggestive suicide”. Joseph Grant the banker borrowed lots of
money without permission. Then he lost all the money through gambling. They found him lying in
bed moaning, “My God, this will kill me! I cannot stand the disgrace.” In a short time he was dead. The
doctors said it was “mental suicide."

“There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.”

Bonus notes:

Concentrate until you can see things clearly in your mind

You must mix emotion and faith with the words you speak in order to create results (not just
reading them plainly)
See yourself already having something which will cause your subconscious to create actions that
mimic the person that has those things which will supercharge your results.
Chapter 4:
Actionable advice:

Hold things in mind until you can actually see them.

When a plan enters your mind that will fulfill your desire. Act upon it immediately and treat it
with respect.
Visualize you doing the action that will result in your desire

Chapter 5:

Knowledge is only useful when applied and constructed into plans of action.

It is not essential to have knowledge in the mind but to know where to get knowledge when you need it
and organize that knowledge into a definite plan for action.

What to do for knowledge:

Have a mastermind group which has the specialized knowledge that you currently don’t
“Schooling” is not important, and an educated person is a person who knows where to get
knowledge when needed and how to turn it into a plan for action
Organize your knowledge and put it to use
Whenever learning something you first should have a purpose for it
Value things that have actual value not in terms of monetary value

Do not mistake temporary defeat for failure.

Chapter 6: Imagination

1. Synthetic imagination
2. Creative imagination from infinite intelligence occurs only when the conscious mind is
stimulated through the emotion of a strong desire.

Coca Cola was created through imagination.

Actionable advice:

1. Make your plan a definite plan and make your purpose a definite purpose
2. Persistent effort creates consistent results

Chapter 7: Mastermind
Steps to creating master plans
(a) Ally yourself with a group of as many people as you may need for the creation, and carrying out of
your plan, or plans for the accumulation of money-making use of the “Master Mind" principle described
in a later chapter. (Compliance with this instruction is absolutely
essential. Do not neglect it.)
(b) Before forming your "Master Mind" alliance, decide what advantages, and benefits,
you may offer the individual embers of your group, in return for their cooperation. No one
will work indefinitely without some form of compensation. No intelligent person will either
request or expect another to work without adequate compensation, although this may not
always be in the form of money.
(c) Arrange to meet with the members of your "Master Mind" group at least twice a week,
and more often if possible, until you have jointly perfected the necessary plan, or plans for
the accumulation of money.
(d) Maintain PERFECT HARMONY between yourself and every member of your "Master
Mind" group. If you fail to carry out this instruction to the letter, you may expect to meet
with failure. The "Master Mind" principle cannot obtain where PERFECT HARMONY does
not prevail.

Defeat only means one thing. That the plan you were using was not a sound plan!

Things to do to become more successful:

1. Control your sexual urges and move those urges into urges to accomplish your basket goal
2. Concentrate all efforts into the one intention of your basket goal
3. Stop being intolerant
4. Stop being dishonest
5. Cut down your ego and vanity
6. Think more deeply and research
7. Improve your decision making abilities

Chapter 8: Decision Making

Actionable advice:

Do not be influenced by the opinions of others when reaching decisions of your own because it
saps your personal desires.
Do not talk so much. Listen more. Do not disclose plans and purposes to people who envy you.
Be courageous in your decisions, despite the risks and what people think.
Become a decision maker in the things you do

Chapter 9: Persistence
Mastermind group:
1. Pick people who have traits that you don’t which you want to build
2. Surround yourself with people you want to become like and by osmosis you will become like
them

Persistence:

1. Through persistence someone will eventually win

2. Be persistent
3. All failures carry a lesson that you can learn and so do successes.
4. Create sound plans that make sense. Look over your plans and critically think about them.
5. To build more persistence become fearless to criticism.
6. Close your mind to all negative and discouraging influences.

Divine powers:

1. Prayer
2. The power of words and suggestion
3. Kinship with God

Chapter 10: Power

Power is organized knowledge:

1. Infinite intelligence
2. Accumulated and reflected experiences
3. Experimentation and research

Masterminds create:

New ideas
New thoughts
Deeper planning

Golden rules of masterminds:

The mastermind member must have a single definite purpose within that group in order for
things to harmonize. (No scattered brains and no scattered intentions)
You take on the nature and habit of thoughts with whom you associate in harmony.

Chapter 11: The Mystery of Sex: Transmutation

Actionable advice:

1. When you have sexual urges switch those thoughts of physical expression into thoughts of
achieving your goal.
2. Do not risk your life, wellbeing, reputation, and success for the sexual contact.
3. Use sexual feelings to turn on the brains creativity and imagination.
4. To gain new ideas that can help. You sit and concentrate on a single purpose.

To invent:

1. Stimulate the mind

2. Concentrate on the known factors of the invention until a clear picture has formed then let go of
the picture. Then wait for the answer to flash in the mind.

1. Strengthen your sex drive by no PMO

2. Rewire your sex drive into success by taking action and getting the endorphin hit of
achievements. Instead of the endorphin hit of orgasm and physical stimulation. This turns
the desire into desire for action and achievement.

Scientific explanation: Reroutes and emotion that constantly happens into certain thought patterns.

Note: Sexual emotions stimulate the mind enough that people can easily be more creative with their
imagination. But to use this imagination to move towards success instead of using it to imagine sex is
powerful.

Important reframe: Sexual urges are not “dirty” or impure. In fact they are the most pure for they
create new life. A person with high sex drive has the gift of a powerful and strong drive and zest for
life!

Source for inspiration: Someone who doesn’t want to bang you that you would like to, which gives
you the drive to become more successful and end up succeeding.

Warning: Avoid overindulgence in sexual pleasures because they damage willpower, reason, and lower
drive.

When someone has a strong desire to attract a mate: They get motivated to achieve many things.

Uplifting: Thoughts of love can uplift you and empower you.

Man’s greatest motivating force: His desire to please women. Use this force to achieve whatever
goals you set forth in achieving.
Chapter 12: THE SUBCONSCIOUS: MIND THE CONNECTING LINK

Emotions to habituate in your life:

The emotion of DESIRE
The emotion of FAITH
The emotion of LOVE
The emotion of SEX
The emotion of ENTHUSIASM
The emotion of ROMANCE
The emotion of HOPE

Emotions to avoid:
The emotion of FEAR
The emotion of JEALOUSY
The emotion of HATRED
The emotion of REVENGE
The emotion of GREED
The emotion of SUPERSTITION
The emotion of ANGER

To make prayer work:

Have true faith while you pray and have a sincere desire to communicate with infinite intelligence.

Chapter 13: The brain

The mind:

Only thoughts in a high level of vibration are the only thoughts pickup up and carried from one
brain to another.
Thoughts that are combined with emotions vibrate at higher levels and can be broadcasted.
By moving your brain to a higher level of vibration. You can attract thoughts and ideas from
higher levels through the ether.
To get levels of thought and knowledge outside of one’s self, you sit down at a round table and
present a problem. Each mind contributes whatever thoughts occur to them.

Chapter 14: The invisible counselors (I will probably not apply this)

1. Hold a counselor meeting with the people you want to learn from and become like.
2. Do this in the morning and before bed time.
3. Address yourself to the people in the group and what you desire from them. And politely ask for
their assistance.
4. Doing this attracts life forms that are energetic and powerful.
5. You can bring to them problems and they can solve it.
Chapter 15: Outwitting fear
Your sixth sense is when your emotions get aroused and your heart beats faster before something bad
happens.

1. The narrow road, you must refuse anything that goes outside of the narrow road.
2. Let go of all your fears then you will experience more success than you otherwise would.
3. Focus on thinking about success and wins. Disregard thoughts of losing in your mind. Your
attention must be on the ball.
4. You must take absolute control of your thoughts
5. The world only wants to know one thing, have you actually created the results? They don’t care
about excuses (alibis)
6. You must make moves, you are playing against time.
7. The master key is burning desire for a definitive basket goal.
