The future of color

Does the future look bright or does it look a little more pastel?

Have you noticed that certain colors are popular for a year
or two and then are replaced by a whole new set of “in”
colors? The Color Association of the United States (CAUS)
has been forecasting the next season's popular colors for
more than 80 years. CAUS decides what colors are "in" by
working behind the scenes with professionals in the fields
of color styling, color use, color research, marketing and
merchandising.

Check out the colors of the new millennium at

www.colorconnection.xerox.com. Download the CAUS
Color Palette 2000 for Interiors (and printed
communications), and find special tools and tips to help
you determine which colors will work best for your
business. Color wheels (see image), for example, organize
the color spectrum into an easily usable format to help
you identify which colors will be complimentary,
harmonious, and contrasting.

Staying on the cutting edge of color in your industry will

help your communications and products get noticed, so
they’ll have a greater impact on your audience. For more

forecasts, which extend beyond 2001, visit

exhibit featuring three ground-
breaking artists. For the past 6 years,
innovators Dorothy Simpson Krause,
Bonny Lhotka, and Karin Schminke
of the printmaking studio, Digital
Atelier, have been using computer and
printer technology as a primary art-
making tool. Their techniques include
transfer, sandwich prints, and the
lenticular process. Their works are
currently shown in more than 200
corporate and museum collections,
including the Smithsonian Institute's
National Museum of American Art.

These artists have expanded the

horizons of color printing for all of us.
