Solar Cooker

Strain gauge rosettes are used when the principal stress direction is unknown. Dummy strain gauges are used for temperature compensation. Strain gauges cannot be used at high temperatures due to decomposition of cement and carrier materials. Buoyancy effects are found in platform balances. A pendulum-type balance is not appropriate for large weights. When an elastic member is used with a strain gauge, it is called a load cell.
