The top eight finishers will receive first-round byes, while the No. 9-24
qualifiers will return to the lanes for the first round of best-of-three match-

The top eight will join the first-round winners in the bracket when com-
petition resumes. The tournament formally will end with the Masters final.
All 265 competitors at the 2018 World Men's Championships bowled 24
games this week at the SCAA Bowling Centre.

NHRA DRAG RACING STAR AND PBA FAN

JR TODD WINS FIRST FUNNY CAR TITLE
Accomplished bowler and NHRA funny car star JR Todd won his first
career NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Funny Car World
Championship title at the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club
Raceway at Pomona, Calif.
Todd won the title by defeating Tommy Johnson in the finals with a
3.872 seconds elapsed time at 329.1 mph, notching his sixth win of the
season in the process.
Todd and fellow NHRA drivers Shawn Langdon and Richie Crampton
took time out from their busy schedules to bowl with 12-time PBA Tour
champion Sean Rash at Parkside Lanes in Aurora, Ill., in June. Todd
showed his prowess on the lanes by posting games of 217 and 220 dur-
ing an informal match between the three drivers and Rash.
PBA will join NHRA as part of the FOX Sports family of beginning
with the PBA Clash telecast on Dec. 23 leading into the 2019 Go
Bowling! PBA Tour season in January.

BOBBY JAKEL TO MANAGE

PBA MIDWEST REGION
Lockport, Ill., native Bobby Jakel, the PBA Central Region manager
since 2006, will succeed Rich Weber as PBA Midwest Region manager
at the start of the 2019 season.
Jakel, a 49-year-old graduate of Illinois State University where he
majored in psychology and bowled with the Redbirds for four years, will
become the PBA Midwest Region’s seventh manager, following in the
footsteps of Pat Patterson, Ray Bluth, Don McClaren, Dick Weber, John
Weber and Rich Weber. He also will continue to manage the PBA
Central Region.
“I’m looking forward to handling duties in both regions and seeing
Midwest bowlers more often,” Jakel said.
