THE DISTANCE BETWEEN ARE ADJUSTED TO
OBTAIN THE REQUIRED SPH.
WHEN THE DISTANCE BETWEEN TERRACES IS
WIDENED, THE DISTANCE BETWEEN PLANTING
POINTS IS PROPORTIONATELY NARROW OR
CONVERSELY.
WHEN THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TERRACES IS
NARROWED THE DISTANCE BETWEEN PLANTING
POINTS IS PROPORTIONATELY WIDENED.

PLANTING POINT = STAND PER HA / ROWS/TERRACE
Two measuring lines ie ‘ line A’ and ‘ line B’ .
b. Line A is used to measure the distance across 2 terraces.
Line ‘B’ will be used to demarcate planting points along the
planting terrace
c. Both lines are marked with colored metal tags at specific
length, as shown.
d. Metal ‘T’ to align line A and B perpendicular to each other.

A team of 4 persons is required, with 3 persons holding line ‘A’,
measuring the distance across two terraces. The 4th person shall
hold the end of the line ‘B’, determining and marking of planting
points.
a. Line the first (top) contour terrace using a tape and lining pegs at
8.2 m apart
b. A planting point is established on the second terrace midway
below the first two planting points. This establishes the first
triangulation of the planting points

c. Start the lining from the first points on the second terrace onwards.
e. Person no 3 holds the tail end of line ‘A’ at the terrace’s wall of the
lower terrace. He will inform person no 4 on the colour of the marker
at the terrace wall.
Using bamboo sticks, person no 4 will marks the planting points on the planting
terrace at the appropriate colour markers matching the colour mentioned by
person no 3
The process is repeated along all the other terraces each time commencing
from the last marked planting point.
