    1) The continuity equation states that for an ideal fluid flowing in a pipe, the mass flow rate at each section of the pipe remains constant. 2) It is based on the law of conservation of mass, which says that if there are no sources or sinks, the mass flux through any tube of flow must be constant. 3) This means that for an incompressible fluid, the product of cross-sectional area and velocity at any point in the pipe must equal the product at any other point.
