IWCF Drilling Well Control Level 2 (Introductory)

Scope (Target audience)


The Level 2 (Introductory) course is designed for delegates "working in roles which may directly
contribute to the creation, detection or control of a well influx" (p.9, OGP Report 476).
Level 2 Well Control is a mandatory prerequisite for anyone who requires a Level 3 (Driller) or
Level 4 (Supervisor) Well Control Certificate.

Duration:
3 days + IWCF examination on 4th day

Course Content:
o Barrier management
o Risk management
o Fundamentals of formation pressure
o How well control events occur
o Consequences of a well control event
o How well control events are detected/avoided
o Basic risk calculations
o Roles and Responsibilities
o Overview of the key equipment
o Kill procedures
o Scenario based incidents

Prerequisite:
Identification card or passport
Prior to attending, delegates shall indicate which type of BOP certificate course is required:
o Surface BOP certificate course or,
o Combined (Surface and Subsea) BOP certificate course

Additional Information:
Minimum number of Candidates: 2
Maximum number of Candidates: 10
Validation: 5 years
Note: Registration must be done a minimum 10 days before the course commencement date.
To obtain a certificate, the candidate must achieve a minimum grade of 70% in each of the two sections
of the programme (Written test on equipment knowledge and on principles and procedures).
