Reservoir / Fluid Properties
o Pi = 3,500 kPaa (508 psia)
o T = 32 deg C (89.6 deg F)
o h = 8 meters (26 ft)
o Porosity = 21%
o Sw = 40%
o Pressure source: Casing and Flowing through Tubing
o Average MPP and tubing depth = 500 meters (1,640 ft)
o Tubing ID/OD (new wells) = 2 3/8” , 4.67 lb/ft
o Casing ID=4.052 “, Casing depth= 506 meters (1660 ft)
o Surface temperatures (average) = 50 deg C flowing, 15 deg C static
(122, 59 deg F)
Procedure:
In this section, we will open a Merak format production file (flat). This is the
standard interchange format for Canadian data. In the US, one commonly used
format is that of IHS, the “Dwights” format (*.dp2, *.dmp). Both of these file
formats contain data recorded on a monthly basis. Neither format contains
continuously recorded flowing pressure information (although the IHS format has
flowing pressures recorded from short-term welltests)
1. Click “File” then “Open” from the menu bar. Select the T3.mer file.
2. Use the Well tree on the Well Manager page to scroll through the list of
wells.
a. Click on the Map page to view well location information
b. Click on the Production History page to examine the production
data
c. Click on the Details page to see the well header information
The public format production data files usually do not have high enough
resolution, quality and completeness to be used for RTA. (This is not always true,
depending on what the objectives of the analysis are) Thus, we wish to upload
external text files containing daily production and flowing pressures to the RTA
file, for particular wells of interest.
3. Click on the A-87-E/94-P-06 well on the well tree, and then click on the
“Select” button. RTA will prompt for initial conditions. Simply click the
“Continue” button, as we will enter the conditions later on.
4. Notice the clear lack of production data resolution on the Data Chart
5. Click on the Import page. Select the “A-87-E.csv” file for importing and
complete the importing process (See Tutorial 2). Note: In the interests of
the owner of the data, well names and locations have been altered.
6. Enter reservoir and fluid properties on the Properties page, as provided in
the Background section of this document. Note that the gas properties
have been included with the public production file.
7. Enter the wellbore details on the Wellbore page and click the “Calculate”
button.
8. Repeat the previous steps for the B-85-E and C-83-E wells.
Analysis and Bubble Mapping
In this section, we have now completed the analysis of three wells and we wish
to view the results on the map.
11. Click on the Well Manager page, and the Map page.
12. Click on the “Bubble Map Options” button on the GIS toolbar.
13. Select “Agarwal Gardner” on the pulldown menu for “Select Analysis
Method”. Try each of the following combinations for “Select Color Fill
Parameter”
a. Permeability
b. Flow capacity (kh)
c. Transient / Boundary : Color fill is red if well is boundary dominated
and blue if transient (based on a minimum number of data points
lying to the right of the boundary dominated flow vertical line)
14. Repeat (13) but select “OFIP” for “Bubble Size Parameter”.
Often, in this type of field study, additional wells will need to be added to the
study. In this case, a new well has been completed that was not in the public
data file.
15. From the Well Manager page, click on the “New” button under “Well
Options”. Enter “A-8-L/94-P-6” for well name.
16. Click the “CSV/XLS” button to launch the ASCII import routine.
17. Select the A-8-L well and complete the import procedure.
18. Note that the Lat/Long location of the well has been automatically
calculated, based on the well name (this will happen for any names that fit
the DLS or NTS formats)
