Mcts Feedback 2

The document summarizes a lesson observation of a first grade student teacher. It notes that the student teacher was good in some areas like using formative assessment, but that the lesson could be improved. Specifically, the objective was unclear, the format of group work did not engage most students, and concrete representations and establishing routines were lacking. Overview  of  the  lesson:    Lesson  started  with  some  physical  activity.    The  students  sang  a  song  on
numbers.    Good  attempt  at  having  a  rotation.
Good  use  of  formative  assessment
Areas  for  development:    Abstract  representation  would  not  be  the  preferred  method  of
instruction  to  start  a  lesson  on  subtracting  with  first  graders.
Lesson’s  objective  is  not  clear;  it  talks  about  two  ways  of  subtracting.
The  format  of  cooperation  used  does  not  work  with  first  graders.    They  were  given  one
subtraction  problem  on  a  card  for  the  groups  to  solve.    As  a  result,  most  of  the  students  did  not
participate.    The  lesson  was  not  structured  for  first  graders.
Concrete  representation  was  not  evident  during  this  lesson.
Routines  haven’t  been  established.    There  appear  to  be  too  many  confusions  during  the  lesson.
Focus  for  next  lesson:
Improve  classroom’s  routines
Improve  lesson’s  structure
