Instructions For Using Curve Calculations

This document provides instructions for calculating curve parameters for road design. The user enters the radius, deflection angle, and point of intersection, and the calculator will determine the remaining curve components, including tangent distance, length, middle ordinate, long chord, external distance, point of curvature, and point of tangency. Formulas are provided for calculating each component based on radius and deflection angle. An example calculation is shown for three curves.

Instructions for using curve calculations

To use:
Enter the radius, deflection angle and PI Station. The remaining components of the curve will be calculated.
Units will be meters or feet depending on the entered units of the radius.

R = Radius
T = Tangent Distance
L = Length of the curve
MO = Middle Ordinate
LC = Long Chord
E = External
D = Deflection Angle
PC = Point of Curvature
PI = Point of Intersection
PT = Point of Tangency
