The document describes assembling a household circuit with three bulbs, three switches, a fuse, and a power source. It lists the required materials and provides the theory behind household electric circuits. The procedure explains how to connect the components in parallel and series, including the bulbs, switches, and fuse. When tested, the fuse burned out as expected when the current reached 0.6 amps, demonstrating the circuit functions properly.

ACTIVITY -1

AIM - To assemble a household circuit comprising three

bulbs,three switches, a fuse and a power source .

MATERIAL REQUIREd -Three electric bulbs,

(40w,60w,100w),three bulbs holders,three switches, a fuse
holder and a fuse wire,a three pin plug, flexible two colured
insulating copper wire, a line tester, tools like a wire cutter,
a stripper,a screw driver and a drill.

THEORY- Household circuit functions of main supply

of 220v ac at 50hz and current rating is 5A for domestic
use for bulbs,fluorescent tubes, fans,etc. , and 15A for
heavy load appliances like refrigerator, air
conditioner,geyser,hot plates,etc.
Total power consumption"p" at any time ,
P=P1+P2+P3+...............................
Where p1 ,P2,P3 are power drawn by various appliances.
At a potential'V',the current drawn frome the mains,
I=P/V
Here,P is in watt,Vis in volt and I is in ampere. Electric use
is a sefty device which is used to limit a load. It is a short
piece of wire made up of a material of high resistivity and
of law melting point so that it may easily melt due to over
heating, when excessive current pass through the circuit. It
is always connect with in series with a supply source on
phase wire. Remember that in household circuit ,all
appliances are connect parallel while aswitch is connected
in series with each appliance on phase of wire supply line.
CAUTION: never use afuse of much higher rating than the
one recommended for a circuit/appliance.

PROCEDURE-
1. connect one end of the bulb holder to the red flexible
wire through a switch S and the other end is connected toa
black flexible wire .
2. connect all the three bulbs L1,L2andL3 in parallel, with
red wire ends at one point and black wire ends at the
other point.
3. Took two long flexible wires which serve as leads.
4. connect the main fuse in series with the power source.
connect a plug and the socket at the end of two
leads.coonect agreen wire from the earth pin of the plug .
insert the plug in socket in provided in main electric board.
5. check the circuit once again to ensure that household
circuit is completed.
6- To test the fuse ,for the three bulbs of 40w ,60w,100w
each, total current drawn should not exceed 0.6A.
7. Gradually increase the current to 0.75A ,the fuse must
burn of it about 0.6A.

Testing:Put the switches on one by one. then put them of

one by one.

Coloure cooding for house wiring:

wires used in electric ciruits are ususlly made of
copper.Generally, three wire are used in house wiring:
live(L),neutral(N)and the earth wire (E) . To identify each
wire, a standard coloure cooding is used for the insulation
covering of these wires. old and new international
convation for coloure cooding for insulation covering is as
follows:
CONCLUSION - All the bulbs an switches work
properly with controlled power supply.

PRECAUTION-
1. All the components must be connected to the power
suppy is given in the circuit diagram.
2. Insulated copper/aluminium wires of standard colour
code should be used for connection.
3. switches and fuse must always be placed on the live
wire.
4. Keep all the conection tight and insulation intact.
5. Be extra careful not to touch any exposed part of this
circuits.
