C. Course Synopsis
Computer Applications in Business provides an overview of the integrated software packages most
often used in the workplace. By the end of this course, you will have a sound understanding of the
basic features and business applications for the word processor, spreadsheet, database, and
presentation software in your choice of either Microsoft Works Suite or Microsoft Office Professional
packages. This course will teach you the basics in how to use computers to communicate.
D. Course Objectives
Develop awareness of computers’ hardware and peripherals; concepts regarding software – its
types, basic operations, basic OS concepts, OS installation.
1. Develop advanced user level skills in various Application Packages: MS Word, MS Access, MS
Excel, MS PowerPoint.
2. Set up a computer for World Wide Web connection; Use e-mail to send / receive messages
and file attachments; Concepts of on-line discussion groups.
E. Course learning Outcome
After completing this course, students will be:
• Identify the components of a computer system and demonstrate basic proficiency in
commonly used applications.
• Analyse, synthesize, and evaluate school, work, or home situations and use application
software to complete information-processing tasks efficiently and effectively.
• Prepare, manage, and print documents using application software.
• Access the Internet and learn to use the browse, search, and hyperlink capabilities of Web
browsers.
• Create, design, and produce professional documents using word processing software (i.e., MS
Word).
