Overview: Students will tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog and

digital clocks.

Subject Mathematics/ Telling Time

Grade Level 2nd Grade

Materials Computer/small tablets, Kahoot, Quizlet, SplashMath.com

Objectives Students will tell and write time in hours and half-hours using analog
and digital clocks.

7. Tell and write time from analog and digital clocks in five minute
NAEYC Standards increments, using a.m. and p.m. Develop an understanding of
common terms, such as, but not limited to, quarter past, half past,
and quarter to.

Teaching Timeline

Step 1 Arrival and set up (5:00 PM)

Step 2 Intro (2 minutes)


Gather students and explain what we will be doing- which is, telling
and writing time in hours and half-hours using analog and digital
clocks.

Step 3 Lead in (5 minutes)


Take a quick quiz on quizlet based on vocabulary used for time (5
minutes)

Step 4 Demonstration (5 minutes) of the powerpoint and going over


vocabulary used for time

Step 5 Practice (5 minutes)


Use https://www.education.com/game/floyd-alarm-clock/ to have
students interact with clock and telling time

Step 6 Elapsed Time (6 minutes)


Watch video about elapsed time, then do examples from students’
daily lives on the board (analog and digital times).

Step 7 Practice (7-10 minutes)


Use penzu in groups to create a story about your daily routine, using
times for everything you do (we will have an example on the board)
Step 8 Extension (5-7 minutes) if there is time we will have groups present
their stories

Step 9 Complete.
