Fantastic FISCO

• Engineer an IS fieldbus the same as general purpose

fieldbus

– Voltage from power supply

– Current required by devices
– Ohm’s law - resistance of cabling
– Require >9V at devices

Copyright © 2003 by MTL Instruments and Relcom Inc

Is that all there is to FISCO?
• Formerly IS installations done using IEC/EN60079-14
‘Entity’ required:
– calculation of cable parameters
– comparison of safety descriptions
– creation of descriptive system document
• Now IEC TS 60079-27 FISCO Technical
Specification
– Eliminates need to calculate cable parameters
– Reduces safety documentation to a list of devices
– Allows addition of devices without a review of safety
documentation

Fieldbus Intrinsically Safe COncept

• Field cables must conform to the following specification:

– Loop resistance must be between 15 and 150 ohms / km
– Loop inductance must be between 0.4 and 1 mH / km
– Loop capacitance must be between 80 and 200 nF / km
– Maximum length of each spur cable is 30m in IIC and IIB
– Maximum length of each trunk cable is 1 km in IIC or 5 km in IIB
• The limits are not restrictive
– typical Fieldbus cable has parameters of 50ohms/km, 0.8mH/km and
120nF/km
