3.0 PROCEDURE

3.1) Density.

i) A brick was measured by using a vernier caliper and volume of brick was

measured by ruler steel.

ii) The mass of brick was determined by using weigh measure.

iii)The density of brick was calculated by using the formula.

Where,
𝑚
𝜌= 𝑣

𝜌 = 𝐷𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑦
𝑚 = 𝑚𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑘𝑔

𝑣 = 𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑢𝑚𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑚3
RESULT
Volume of brick = 15.66 m3

4.0 OBJECTIVE

4.1 To determine the water absorption of brick according to Malaysia standard.

5.0 EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL

5.1 EQUIPMENT

i) Balance (6kg x 0.1g)

5.2 MATERIAL

i) Brick sample

6.0 PROCEDURE

6.1) WATER OBSORPTION

i) The mass of dried brick sample was determined by weighing it with balance.

ii) The brick sample was immersed in water for half hour.

iii) The mass of wet brick was determined and percentage of water absorption for that
brick sample was calculated by using the formula:

𝑚𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑤𝑒𝑡 𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑘−𝑚𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑑𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑘

𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑔𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑏𝑠𝑜𝑟𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 = × 100
𝑚𝑎𝑠𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑑𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑘
