1. Texts that explain how something works or how to use instruction /

operation manuals. For example : how to use the CD player, the
handphone, the radio, the printer, etc
2. Texts that instruct how to do a particular activity. For Example:
rules for games, road safety rules, recipes, science experiments,
etc.
3. Texts that deal with human behaviour. For example : how to
succeed, how to live happily,etc.

Terjemahan atau arti dari penjelasan di atas adalah :

1. Teks yang menjelaskan bagaimana sesuatu bekerja atau teks yang

menjelaskan petunjuk penggunaan. contoh : cara menggunakan CD

2. Material: Telling the needed materials. (menjelaskan bahan yang

mencantumkan material. Hal ini tidak menjadi masalah karena
 mungkin pada procedure text tersebut tidak ada bahan yang
digunakan.
3. Steps :Describing the steps to achieve the purpose (menjelaskan
langkah-langkah untuk menjapai tujuan.

Ciri-ciri Procedure Text

Beberapa ciri prosedure text yaitu:

1. imperative atau menggunakan bentuk perintah, contohnya

: buatlah (make), gunakanlah (use)
2. memakai Simple Present Tense (Subject+V1)
3. Terdapat temporal conjunctions, contoh: First,next, after that, then,
last
4. memakai action verbs, misalnya: mix, blend, stir, cook, etc.
5. terdapat goal atau tujuan . Contohnya: How to make Gudeg.
6. Dalam beberapa jenis procedure text terdapat bahan atau materi.
contohnya: coffee, rice. Untuk Procedure Text cara melakukan
sesuatu, tidak memakai bahan atau materi.
7. Adanya langkah-langkah untuk melakukan sesuatu.

 State your goals clearly at the beginning.

 List all materials and equipment in order of use.
 List the steps in chronological order.
 Focus on general people by using subject "You" or "We" instead of individuals.
 Use action verbs (imperative verbs), such as cut, peel, plug, turn on, etc.
 Use sequencing words to connect the steps. E.g.: First(ly), second(ly), third(ly), next, then,
etc.
 Give detailed information on how (carefully, with the knife); where (into the oven); when
(after the water boils).
 Give detailed factual description (shape, size, color, amount).
