Sem 1 Riveting Worksheet
A rivet is an easy, economical and permanent way to bind two or more sheets of metal together.
The original rivet head is called the factory head, and the secondary head made after "popping"
the rivet is called the shop head or the buck-tail. Keep in mind that pop rivets are not a
permanent solution, but they will keep the metal in place long enough to add a permanent
solution.
Pop riveting
Pop riveting is a method of lap-joining two pieces of sheet metal together. The rivet consists of a
round-headed pin that fits through the hollow core of the rivet. The pin is inserted into the pull-
piece socket of a pair of riveting pliers, and the rivet is inserted into a drilled hole in the joint.
The plier handles are then drawn together, causing the pin to deform the rivet. The pin then
stretches and snaps off inside the rivet, forming a permanent joint. The riveting tool is a popular
choice throughout the sheet metal industry because of its durability and rugged design
