The Bidder
The bidder is Siae Microelettronica S.p.A.
Siae is an Italian private company, based in Cologno Monzese - an industrial area close to Milano -
that designs, manufactures, markets, installs and maintains telecommunication equipment and
networks.
Since its foundation in 1952, Siae has been extremely active in designing microwave radio
equipment, multiplexers and the associated supervisory and control systems. We grew rapidly in the
field of telecommunications and have enjoyed steady expansion in terms of sales, personnel and
building.
Our sustained grow testifies to the confidence with which leading customers, both in Italy and
abroad, view and select the products of our company.
R&D department is our pride: our highly qualified teams of engineers and designers work
constantly on the development of new products. As a result, both equipment characteristics and
manufacturing technologies benefit from continuous improvement.

2006 in order to have the strong presence in South East Asia, provide the fast support and services

To provide the best support to Viettel, Siae Microelettronica will organize into multiple service
levels.

A) Siae Microelettronica S.p.A.-Italy

will provide the in-depth technical support through Siae Microelettronica South East Asia
indirectly or directly to Viettel. The experts from Siae Italy will occasionally present in Vietnam
for the technical consultant and/or project management if required. Siae Italy will be responsible

 for the product manufacturing which all the equipment have been produced at Siae Factory in
Milan as well as the maintenance & repairing services. Our R&D in Siae Italy will also provide
the new product feature and development to completely achieve and satisfy the Viettel
requirement.
Both Siae offices will fully be in co-ordination for technical support, production time schedule,
system planning and all services to Viettel.

B) Siae Microelettronica South East Asia

will be the main contact to Viettel. Siae South East Asia’s facility & services are regional
training center with the demonstration Microwave product, after-sales services, technical &
product support, project survey and design, project management, and etc.
Siae South East Asia’s General Manager will be fully looking after Viettel and will make his
presence in Vietnam frequently. Siae South East Asia’s Vice President and Area Manager will be
dedicated and stationed in Vietnam when the project deployment.

C) Local agent in Vietnam

will provide the assistance to Siae Microelettronica and will be the first tier support to Viettel
for local support and after sales services.

The Products
For this microwave RFP, we are offering the equipment belonging to the Access Link Series (ALS)
family, the latest generation of SIAE PDH/SDH/Ethernet microwave radios.
ALS is composed by an indoor unit called “ALC IDU” (Access Link Compact IDU) and by an
outdoor unit (ODU). ALS is proposed with 2 different type of IDU, for satisfy any technical need of
Viettel:
 ALC+ IDU that has 32xE1+3x10/100BaseT Ethernet tributary interface (main solution); in
this offer this IDU is quoted with 16xE1 capacity, according to tender requirements, but
please note that the capacity may be upgraded via software

Please note that these IDU are compact type.
ALS supports non protected or protected configurations; please note that in this tender SIAE has
quoted as main solution the non protected configuration, according to tender requirements.
Moreover ALS it is available in a wide range of frequency bands that go from 6L GHz up to 38
GHz; in this specific tender it is offered in 7 GHz and 18 GHz frequency bands.

PDH ALS ODU

In addition to the characteristics that always distinguished SIAE microwave radios, like high
reliability, excellent performances, high link budget (long distance, good availability and low
antenna cost), extended frequency coverage, reduced power consumption…etc, the ALS offer some
peculiarities that makes these families the “best in class” PDH/SDH/Ethernet radio currently
available on the market. Among these peculiarities we would like to mention:
Modulation agility: The ALS family supports 4,16 and 32QAM modulation equipped with standard
AL ODU (that it is offered in this project). ALS family supports 4, 16, 32 and 128 QAM
modulation equipped with Universal AS ODU.
The selection of the current modulation scheme is made by software. No change in hardware is
needed to change the modulation scheme.
Adaptive modulation: The ALS family supports dynamic/adaptive modulation. In case of strong
fading conditions the equipment automatically switches to a more robust modulation scheme in
order to increase the system gain. The reverse switch is done when the standard propagation
conditions are restored. This feature can be activated/deactivated by software.
Capacity agility: With the ALS family, the same indoor unit can handle from 4 up to 100 Mbit/s
(from 4xE1 up to 53xE1) or from 1 to 4xSTM-1 with the same HW platform. Mixed E1 and
Ethernet interfaces are available.
Capacity is software programmable allowing easy upgrades with no HW change
Universal ODU: the same ODU can support Ethernet, PDH super PDH and SDH IDUs allowing
optimised spare management and cost effective capacity uplifts.

Nodal Interfaces: The nodal interfaces of the AL permits the interconnection of up to three IDUs,
implementing in this way a composite unit with cross-connect capabilities, able to manage up to 12
independent ODUs.
Extremely reduced dimensions: The Indoor Unit either in 1+0 or 1+1 configuration consists of a
19” shelf, one standard unit high.
Fully management via local or centralized NMS system:
ALS family adopt a full software approach.
All configuration activities, alarm/performance monitoring, fault analysis, loops activation etc…
can be locally or remotely performed via an LCT or NMS platform.
SNMP Protocol is used for TMN connections; moreover the implementation of standard
communication protocol stacks and industry-standard interfaces enable Equipment connection to
any IP or OSI-based DCN.

In addition to the above points, it is important to mention that the very advanced modern design and
the recent introduction of the equipment into the market, assures the product a very long life period
before phasing out.
