Slab Shear Coefficient

This document presents equations and a table to evaluate the design shear forces in slabs and loads on supporting beams. The equations show that the shear force is calculated using the total ultimate load per unit area, the length of the shorter side of the slab, and shear coefficients that are selected from the table based on the type of slab panel and its boundary conditions. The table provides shear coefficients for different ratios of the long to short side length and various configurations of continuous and discontinuous edges.

Shear Force for Two-way Restrained Slab and Actions on Supporting Beams

The design shear forces of slab or loads on beams which supported the slabs can be evaluated using the equations
below:

where n is the total ultimate load per unit area

lx is the length of shorter side
βvx and βvy are the shear coefficients from Table 3.15

Table 3.15: Shear force coefficients for restrained two-way slab (Ref. BS 8110: Part 1: 1997)
