REGIONALISM

ABSTRACT

Evolution of regionalism in India is traced back to nineteenth century. Regionalism is manifested


in India’s manifold diversity of languages, cultures, tribes, communities, religions and so on.
There are several factors including economic factor for outbreak of regionalism. In this research
paper, regionalism is defined; forms of regionalism in India are analyzed. Effort is made to bring
out factors for cause of regionalism and suggestions to minimize regionalism. Along with impact
of regionalism on politics, important issues in State Re-organization Report (1955) are discussed.
Specially, causes for upraising of Telangana movement are also critically analyzed in the paper.
