Students will be engaged through the competition aspect of the quiz. Having students strive for first place will
push them to answer correctly. Students could be put into collaborating teams in order to have students talk
through thinking. This game can be played later on as a review for students on their own time to study.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Prior to the Kahoot! quiz, the students will have briefly learned the difference between an inherited and
acquired trait. This will be a pre assessment to evaluate students’ early understanding of inherited and
acquired traits.
Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☐ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Each student will sign into the Kahoot! quiz on his or her computer. The students will then read the eight
questions about a person or animals’ trait and answer whether the trait is acquired or inherited.
If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
I will go back over the questions after it has been completed in order to show students the correct answers
and the reason why.
After the quiz students will be given the correct answer for all of the questions. As a class we will further
discuss examples of inherited and acquired traits in nature.
Will you use data to differentiate instruction for students, if so describe how.) This activity will allow me to
assess how much knowledge my students know about inherited an acquired traits. This will allow me to decide
how much scaffolding the class as a whole will need. For the questions that a majority of the class missed, I
will receive feedback about why they thought one way or another.
My goal for this activity is to engage students in a fun way to assess their knowledge. I want to see my
students prior knowledge about how traits are passed down, and what traits are passed down.
Reflective Practice:
Although students enjoy the competition aspect of Kahoot!, for students who do not read and comprehend as
fast they can have a hard time answering at the speed that the quiz is set at. For classes that have students
with lower reading levels the teacher can read the question aloud, and increase the time limit for a question.
