Types of Virses

A computer virus is a malicious program that infects computers without the user's knowledge. It spreads by replicating itself and can steal sensitive data or gain admin control of systems. There are several types of computer viruses including boot sector viruses that infect boot sectors, worm viruses that self-replicate without human intervention, macro viruses written in macro languages, email attachment viruses sent in emails, Trojan viruses that masquerade as legitimate software, hoax viruses that spread non-existent threats, and email viruses sent in emails.

A computer virus is a malicious software program loaded onto a user’s computer without the user’s

knowledge and performs malicious actions.

The computer virus spreads by itself into other executable code or documents. The purpose of creating a
computer virus is to infect vulnerable systems, gain admin control and steal user sensitive data.

Types of computer virus

1. Boot sector viruses
A boot sector virus is a type of virus that infects the boot sector of floppy disks or the Master Boot Record
(MBR) of hard disks (some infect the boot sector of the hard disk instead of the MBR).
2. Worm viruses
A worm virus is a computer virus that can self-replicate, mostly without human intervention. Other kinds of
computer viruses rely more on curiosity or user naivete to spread.
3. Micro Viruses
A macro virus is a computer virus written in the same macro language used for software programs,
including Microsoft Excel or word processors such as Microsoft Word. When a macro virus infects a
software application, it causes a sequence of actions to begin automatically when the application is opened.
4. Email Attachment Viruses
An email virus is a virus that is sent with or attached to email communications. While many different types
of email viruses work in different ways, there also are a variety of methods used to counteract such
challenging cyberattacks
5. Trojan Viruses
A Trojan horse or Trojan is a type of malware that is often disguised as legitimate software. Trojans can be
employed by cyber-thieves and hackers trying to gain access to users' systems. Users are typically tricked
by some form of social engineering into loading and executing Trojans on their systems.
6. Hoax Viruses
A computer virus hoax is a message warning the recipients of a non-existent computer virus threat. The
message is usually a chain e-mail that tells the recipients to forward it to everyone they know.
7. Email Viruses:
An email virus is a virus that is sent with or attached to email communications. While many different types
of email viruses work in different ways, there also are a variety of methods used to counteract such
challenging cyberattacks.
