Move Tool - V
• Used to move images/selections around the document stage.
• Can be used to move images from one document to another.

Marquee Tool - M • Marquee Tool
• Selection tool used to select specific parts of the image.
• Consists of Rectangular, Elliptical and Single Row/Column. • Lasso Tool
• Can be combined with other selection tools.

Lasso Tool - L • Magic Wand

• Selection tool used to select specific parts of the image. • Quick Selection Tool
• Consists of Lasso, Polygonal and Magnetic.
• Can be combined with other selection tools.

Magic Wand/ Quick Selection Tool - W


• Selection tool used to select specific parts of the image.
• Magic Wand select Colour selections based on tolerance.
• Quick selection used to select based on edge colours.
• Can be combined with other selection tools.

Crop Tool - C
• Used to Crop the image to a smaller proportion.
• Can be used to straighten images
• Newer versions have a Content Aware Crop option

Eyedropper Tool - I
• Samples colour to be used in the Colour Picker.

Healing Tools - J • Healing Tools
• Healing tools used to edit specific parts of the image.
• Consists of Spot Healing, Healing, Patch , Content aware Move and Red-Eye Tool. • Clone Stamp Tool
• Certain workspace have the healing tools as separate icons.

Brush Tool - B • Magic Wand

• Used for various different uses but mainly used like a paint brush. • Quick Selection Tool
• Consists of Brush, Pencil and Mixer and Colour Replacement.

Clone Stamp Tool - S


• Used to stamp one part of an image on to another part.
• Works well with selection tools.
• Can stamp onto new layers.
• Is used well as a healing tool.

History Brush- Y
• Used similar to Brush Tool.
• Used to step back or undo certain actions
Photoshop Tools

Eraser Tool - E
• Used to eraser or remove parts of an image.
• Consists of Eraser, Background Eraser and Magic Eraser

Gradient Tool/Paint Bucket - G


• Gradient Tool makes gradients based on the colours you choose.
• Paint bucket fills an specified area with colour.
• Certain workspace have these tools as separate icons.

Blur/Sharpen/Smudge Tool
• Used for Blur specific parts of an image.
• Used for Sharpen specific parts of an image.
• Used for Smudge specific parts of an image.

Dodge/Burn/Sponge Tool - O
• Dodge will lighten the colour of an area.
• Burn will darken the colour of an area.
• Sponge will saturate or desaturate the colour of an area.

Pen Brush- P
• Can be used to draw Paths or Shapes.
• Can also be used as a selection tool.
• Can be adjusted and anchor points can be added and removed.
Photoshop Tools

Text Tool - T
• Used to create Text.
• Can be used vertically or on a path.
Covered in Lesson 4:
Path/Direct Selection Tool- A • Text Tool
• Used to select paths or shapes.
• Can select certain anchor points with direct selection. • Shape Tool
• Not a selection tool like Marquee or Lasso tools.

Shape Tool - U
• Used to create vector shapes.
• Consists of Rectangular, Rounded Rectangular, Ellipse, Polygon ,Line and Custom Shapes.
• Can be combined or subtracted from each other.

Hand Tool - H
• Used to move around the image if zoomed in.
• Also has a Rotate tool.
• Double click will allow you to fully fit an image to the stage.

Zoom Brush- Z
• Used to zoom in on an image.
• Can zoom in and out.
