Bullying should be viewed as a societal problem, not just a school issue. While 60% of bullying cases in schools have been resolved, violence takes many forms including peer-to-peer bullying, discrimination, assault, punishment and harassment. The Department of Education documented over 1,700 cases of child abuse and bullying in the 2013-2014 school year after an anti-bullying law was passed. It is the duty of homes to ensure children live in a loving and secure environment. The anti-bullying law has helped increase awareness of child abuse and advanced the Department of Education's child protection policy through creating child protection committees in school divisions.
