the PLOT LINE, your teacher will assign ONE part of the plot for you to analyze. In your plot line
analysis, ensure to explain in details what is asked for. Please edit your work before submission.

1. Main characters
-Chalong is the static protagonist character. He is a generous guy who had helped the beggar.
-Nicomb is the static antagonist character. He is an impatient guy. He fighted with Chalong.
-Nicomb’s wife is the static protagonist character. She gave the reward to Chalong whom had
helped her before.
2. Setting
In the Bangkok, at eleven o’clock
3. Plot Summary
Chalong gave the beggar all of his money, then he found out that her husband was Nicomb
whom he got into a fight before. He decided to receive the reward from helping his wife.
4. Type of Conflict
Man VS himself- When Chalong thought of himself whether he should or should not for receiving
the reward.
Man VS Society- When Chalong and Nicomb’s wife had been insulted by the society which judged
the people by the money, not the virtue.
Man VS Nature- There was the torrential rain as the beginning of the story. (was there a struggle?)

Second point of the view because it has the dialogues and the narration.

A. How do the characters’ physical, emotional, and mental characteristics affect the other parts of
the story?
For the main character, Chalong was a poor guy, but he was generous. His personalities affected
the other parts of the story because he had helped the beggar, and her husband was Nicomb
whom he got into the fight before. (elaborate)
B. Do you think that setting is important in other parts of the story? Why or Why not?
Yes, it is important for the story to set the time and place in order to make the story being step
by step, so the reader will not confuse.
C. Identify ONE figure of speech or idiom used by the writer in this part of the plot, and explain its
meaning.
“Chalong, like most Thais, was as happy-go-lucky as the next man.” For this sentence, the idiom
‘happy-go-lucky’ means the person that does not plan much and accepts what happened without
becoming worried. It also has the simile as the figure of speech comparing that Chalong’s
personality likes most Thais.

he is poor but generous. Even if he lacked of the money, he also helped the beggar.

This story used the limited third point of view because it has both narration, dialogues,
and also the detail that the narrator talked about the characters .

Nicomb is an impatient guy. He abused Chalong and then fought with him but actually Chalong
is a good guy. he is kind and generous. Even if he lacked of money, he also helped the beggar
whom is Nicomb’s wife. She is a good person, not like her husband. She gave the reward to
Chalong to requited him back.
B. Do you think that setting is important in other parts of the story? Why or Why not?
Yes, it is important that this story setting in the Bangkok because if the writer changes it into the
other countries such as Japan, China, and etc. It might not have the issue like this story because of
these reasons. The first reason is Chalong may not do this job and the second one is the society, it
may be better than this story like do not judge the people by the social class and regard whether
everyone is equal.
