CASE STUDY #1 in Entrepreneurship
CASE STUDY #1 in Entrepreneurship
1. What traits does Tinong exhibit that are characteristics of successful entrepreneur? Does he
possess traits that are not typical of entrepreneur? Which ones?
Has faith in oneself because he was able to continue building his own businesses despite
of the different struggles he faced, just like when he encountered financial crisis while managing
his Matino venture. This also shows that he was optimistic in his approach in building and making
his businesses grow. He is also a risk-taker because he was able to take risks when he planned for
the establishment of the different themes, menus and other factors for the success of his
businesses. He was also ambitious when it came to his business plans, like making the food in his
Hidalgo venture, world-class.
Yes he does and some them are being a perfectionist or paying attention to detail
especially when it came to the construction of the interiors of his restaurant, the menu and the
ambience in his restaurants, the skills or qualifications of his staff and his management of his
business.
2. Do you believe that there is such a thing as an entrepreneurial personality? Why do you say that?
Yes we do because we think that the core goal of entrepreneurship is to bring out special
personalities, talents or abilities and teach us how to utilize them to be able to differentiate and
make ourselves unique from everyone else.
3. Do you agree or discuss with Tinong’s definition of the entrepreneur as a visionary and an artisan?
Why or why not?
Yes we agree because as an entrepreneur, you arte the one who will plan and design your
own bussiness and in the end, you’re the one who is going to move the business
4. Why did the Matino venture fail? Do you agree with the decision of the investors to turn over its
ownership to the lenders?
It failed because of economic crisis and other external factors that can economically affect
them. Yes we agree because they took a step in order to have another opportunity to start over
again, if they did not, they will go bankrupt or broke.
5. What are the key success factors in the Corsica venture? What do you think is the single most
important factor?
Corsica was a success because of its unique menu, skilled workers or employees and the
multicultural theme and ambience of the restaurant. But despite of their European and “no-
boundaries” concept, they were able to adjust the taste of the food based on the Filipino Palette.
Tinong’s attention to detail was also a key factor wherein he was able to construct the restaurant
in a well-planned location. But the most important factor to its success was Tinong’s commitment
to excellence.
6. What are the key success factors in the Hidalgo venture? What do you think is the single most
important factor?
One of the key factors in the success of the Hidalgo venture was the research and
development they did in Australia; and the intensive study for the project and target market that
was put into its establishment by the Tinong and his crew. Furthermore, because of the research
they did, the restaurant was able to stand on its own as something different from Corsica. The
location of the restaurant also played a role in the success of the restaurant. But among all of
them, the intensive planning for the business caused the business to succeed in Makati and serve
customers with good and unique food.
7. Comment on Tinong’s vison. What is his purpose in articulating a vision? What role does his vision
play in the business?
His vision is praise-worthy and commendable because its message did not only prioritize
growth for the sake of the business only, but it also promotes potential, growth and competency
when it comes to each and every one of the people involved with the business. His vision also tells
us, the readers, to stand firm in our decisions and build relationship with other people and
cultures.
Its purpose is to promote the discovery of each person’s potential and capabilities to
achieve growth and also to introduce the establishment of different relationships with others by
learning and adapting different cultures and practices.
His vison serves as a basis for all his businesses because he wants to make his business
grow in much effective manner in which his employees or crew would also grow and develop
along with the businesses themselves.
