Magic Square Project

In this magic square project, we will be using numbers: 5, 7, 9, 13, 15, 17, 21, 23, & 25.
According to the magic rule, if you add all these numbers it will give you a total of 135, but since
you have a 3x3 square magic, then you must divide by 3 and it will give you a total of 45. This
means that all rows, columns, and diagonals must add up to 45.
The sum of 45 can be written as:
25 + 15 + 5 = 45
25 + 13 + 7 = 45
23 + 17 + 5 = 45
23 + 15 + 7 = 45
23 + 13 + 9 = 45
21 + 17 + 7 = 45
21 + 15 + 9 = 45
17 + 15 + 13 = 45
It doesn’t matter in what order you add the numbers, just make sure that the rows, columns and
diagonals adds up to 45.

Number 5 7 9 13 15 17 21 23 25
Number of sums containing
the number. 2 3 2 3 4 3 2 3 2

This table shows how many times each number is being used in the magic square table.
As you can see number 15 is being used 4 times, so this means that this number must go in the
center of the magic square table. Also, the numbers that are being repeat 3 times are
numbers: 7, 13, 17, and 23. This means that this numbers must go in the corners. Suppose
we choose 7 for the upper left corner, then 23 must go in the right bottom corner.
Now we can choose where to put number 17, it can go in the bottom left corner or top right
corner. Let choose right upper corner for number 17, then number 13 will have to go in
the left bottom corner.
Next you will have to find where to put the rest of the numbers, but keep in mind that rows,
columns, and diagonals must add up to 45.
7 21 17 7 21 17

25 15 5 25 15 5

13 9 23 13 9 23

The sum of all rows, columns, and diagonals adds up to 45.
