Safety 2-1

Safety Precautions
Safety Precautions
To ensure safe operation, be sure to read and understand all safety matters before starting up this system.
This system has two types of safety features: one type to maintain operator safety, and another to maintain the func-
tions of the system.
Although this system has been manufactured with careful consideration to safety, please maintain greater safety by
checking all the places where safety devices are located before starting up this system.

1. Warning labels

Warning labels have been stuck to notify operators of the existence of high-voltage power supplies, revolving and
moving parts in this system and on the printing press. When operating this system, pay careful attention to
places that bear these warning labels.

2. Safe clothing

Always wear suitable work clothes when operating this system.

3. Safe work practises

1) Immediately wipe up any oil or water on the floor or equipment to eliminate slipping hazards. Maintain a
clean working environment at all times.

2) Tidy away any electrical cords or cables to eliminate tripping hazards.

4. Safe equipment operation

1) Do not operate this system with wet hands.

2) Do not hang or sit things on the operation stand, since this will endanger the operator and run the risk of
damaging the system.

3) Do not place things on the system or drop cigarette embers, etc. on to it. Do not use pens or other tools to
push the keys since this may cause mis-operation or damage the system.

5. Malfunctions

If the system malfunctions, immediately stop using it. Remove the cause of the malfunction to allow the system
to operate normally again. Do not use the system again until normal operation is restored. If normal operation is
not restored, then immediately contact your Komori service manager.

KMS M/C EN EO 0306 00

Safety 2-2

Maintenance points
Maintenance points
Be sure to carry out periodic inspections to ensure the safety and performance of the system. Any malfunctions
in the system, including the safety devices, may endanger the operator and run the risk of damaging the system.
Be sure to conduct regular inspections of consumed materials and consumed components, the lubricating oils
used in the printing press, and any other categories that need to be replaced periodically.
If replacement is required, do it quickly and resume normal operation. If these replacements are not carried out,
equipment damage will occur.

1. System maintenance

1) Never remove the front or rear panels of the equipment since this may result in electrocution or equipment
malfunction.

2) Before cleaning the air vents at the back of the equipment, turn off the power source. Never clean while the
power is turned on.

3) Do not insert foreign objects or fingers into the air vents at the back of the equipment.

4) Be careful of the lower gap and casters when moving the equipment.

2. Using floppy disks and the floppy disk drive

1) Keep floppy disks away from magnetic fields (magnets, etc.).

2) Do not store floppy disks in places that are dusty, dirty, hot, humid or exposed to direct sunlight.

3) Do not insert anything other than a floppy disk into the floppy disk drive.

4) Take care not to insert the floppy disk the wrong way round.

5) The floppy disk drive lamp will light when the disk drive is operating. Never remove a floppy disk from the
floppy disk drive while the disk drive lamp is on.

* Insert the floppy disk horizontally into the drive. If the floppy disk is not horizontal, a load/write error may result.

3. Using the LCD touch panel

1) The LCD touch panel is made of glass; strong impacts may break it.

2) If the LCD touch panel is dirty, clean it by lightly wiping it with a soft, dry cloth or a soft cloth that contains a
little ethanol.

CAUTION
Never apply water, neutral detergents, commercial glass cleaners or organic solvents directly to the
touch panel, as this may cause malfunction.
Note that malfunctions caused in this manner are not covered by the warranty.

3) The LCD touch panel should always be operated by finger touch. Do not use hard or sharp objects to
operate the panel.

4) For further details, please read the LCD touch panel operating manual supplied.

5) Try not to display a fixed pattern on the screen for an extended length of time. Doing so may allow a
long-term residual image to form on the screen.

6) See the operating manual included with the touch panel monitor for other detailed information.

KMS M/C EN EO 0306 00

Safety 2-3

4. Maintenance procedures

1) Floppy disk drives should be cleaned with a commercially available cleaning disk once a month.

2) Before starting work, remove any dirt from the LCD touch panel by lightly wiping it with a soft, dry cloth or a
soft cloth that contains a little ethanol.

CAUTION
Never apply water, neutral detergents, commercial glass cleaners or organic solvents directly to the
touch panel, as this may cause malfunction.
Note that malfunctions caused in this manner are not covered by the warranty.

3) Turn off the main unit (or equipment) power before wiping the touch panel. Failure to do so could result in
malfunctions.

Connecting to a network
If you connect to a network, make the following settings.

* Network cable wiring, PC settings etc. should be done by the customer.

Consult with your network manager before making and confirming the network connection.
After confirming the network connection, please proceed with this setup procedure.
(We recommend that you make a note of your settings on the “Copy of network settings” sheet in the Appendix.)

No. 6: Job Name Entry Restrictions

In KMS, project names and job names may contain other characters than single-byte characters.
Initial setting: 0 (no restrictions)

However, since PQC-IV/PQC-S/PQC-U models can only display single-byte characters, if data for a job with a
name entered in Japanese in KMS is sent to the PQC, the job name will be converted to “0”. (If the name is all in
Japanese, it is converted to a date.)
If you want to use Japanese names, we recommend that you enter a management code with the project name in
Japanese and the job name in single-byte characters.
PQC-I/PQC-III and older PQC models can only display job names consisting of digits. For those models, all other
characters will be converted to “0” when data is transmitted. (If all characters are converted to “0”, the data will be
converted to a date.)
