Library Management System: An HTML Project

This document outlines the members of a student group project to develop a library management system. The group includes 4 members: Akhil Kumar, Sri Harsh, Spandan, and Aashutosh Singh. The document then provides an overview of the modules and functionality of the proposed library management system project, including managing user accounts, searching the book and member databases, a book borrowing system, and a report generator. It also describes the existing manual system and limitations that the new system aims to address, such as search capabilities and faster transactions. Finally, it outlines the work schedule and division of tasks among the group members.

ABSTRACT:

The paper titled Library Management System is Library management software for monitoring
and controlling the transactions in a library. The paper "Library Management System" is
developed in java which mainly focuses on basic operations in a library like adding new
member, new books, and updating new information, searching books and members and
facility to borrow and return books. "Library Management System" is a windows application
written for 32-bit Windows operating systems, designed to help users maintain and organize
library. This software is easy to use for both beginners and advanced users.

INTRODUCTION:
The purpose of the application is automation of library, it provides facilities to student or
member to search for the required books and it allows the administrator or librarian to Issue
& return books to students and can create & delete membership of students. The software
Library Management System has four main modules. Insertion to Database Module -User
friendly input Screen Extracting from Database Module-Attractive Output Screen Report
Generation module-borrowed book list & Available book list Search Facility system -search
for books and members.

OBJECTIVES:
Library Management System is a term for computer-based system that manage the catalogue
of a library. The main purpose of this system is to manage library daily operation efficiently.

Objectives of Library Management System (LMS)

a) To build a system that can receive input and generate automatically output in easy way and
short time.

b) To build a monitoring system that is able to monitor and manage all library operations
efficiently.

c) Give an opportunity to librarians to reduce mistakes that always happen during manual
method.

d) To store properly the library items in order to maintain their security.

e) To enter and preserve details of the various issues and keep a track on their returns.

MODULES:

This system basically has four types of modules that handle daily activities for the library:

a) Manage Account module

b) Search Record Module

c) Book Borrowing System Module

d) Report Generator Module

By using library management system, the operation of borrowing and managing inventories
is paperless. This system provides a user-friendly data entry with dropdown button menu, list
box and checkbox in purpose to make the input entry easier to understand and use. It is also
created to ensure that the library items are stored properly in order to maintain their security.

This system will store all the books and members information that consist book numbers,
book titles, author names and racks to the system database. It also provides search function to
help students find the book by number of book. Search function will search through the books
database to look for the book and view where the book is situated.

For the administrator user, only librarians have access to view or edit data from the system
databases. Administrator user will handle administrative functions such as create new LMS
user account and decide the number of days allowed for the borrowed books. Users need to
enter correct password and user id before they can access to this function. From here, they
can add, delete or update the book and borrower database

DRAWBACKS:

 Previous system was time wasting because of providing insufficient features to

students like only one book per students, there is no search engine facility. Sometimes
user might be searching a book that is not present in the library which is just a waste
of time.
 In manual system we generally use the issue cards for issuing the books or if the card
is lost we have to make a new one which takes time and till then we have to wait and
search the database again which is complicated.
 On the other hand, large keeping record of books manually is not a reliable way.
 Modify the details of students and book is large process and may lead prone to errors.

SYSTEM ANALYSIS EXISTING SYSTEM:

System Analysis is a detailed study of the various operations performed by a system

and their relationships within and outside of the system. Here the key question is
what all problems exist in the present system what must be done to solve the
problem Analysis begins when a user or manager begins a study of the program
using existing system. In our existing system all the transaction of books is done
manually, so taking more time for a transaction like borrowing a book or returning a
book and also for searching of members and books. Another major disadvantage is
that to preparing the list of books borrowed and the available books in the library will
take more time, currently it is doing as a one-day process for verifying all records.
So, after conducting the feasibility study we decided to make the manual Library
management system to be computerized.

PROPOSED SYSTEM:
Proposed system is an automated Library Management System. Through
our software user can add members, add books, search members, search books,
update information, edit information, borrow and return books in quick
time. Our proposed system has the following advantages.
 User friendly interface
 Fast access to database
 Less error
 More Storage Capacity
 Search facility
 Look and Feel Environment All the manual difficulties in managing the Library
have been rectified by implementing computerization.
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

This management system can be used in windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1

Windows 10, supported for another platform such as Apple Macintosh and UNIX.
The system must be running Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 operating
system and must meet the following hardware requirements.
 For Windows 7 or above version computers, a 1.70 / 2.60 Ghz or higher
processor with minimum ram of 1GB.
 Notepad, Internet Browser (Google Chrome, Internet Explorer etc.)

WORK SCHEDULE:

Step1: to design a code for login page so that user can login into online
library by filling correct username and password.

Step 2: to design a code for welcome page for online library

Step3: to design a code for View Profile web page so that user can view
his profile

Step 4: to design a code for change password page

Step5: to design a code for check books availability form so that user can
search for the required Books in library are available or not.

Step 6: to design a code for admin login page so that admin or librarian
can login to admin page by filling correct username & password.

Step 7: to design a code for admin home page which consist of links such
as issue books, return books, add books

Step 8: to design a code for book issuing form so that admin can issue
books to student by filling Details like ISBN no. of book member id,
issuing date & due date

Step 9: to design a code for book returning form so that admin can
return the books by filing the details deposited date, ISBN no, mid.
CONCLUSION:

 The library management system has been computed successfully

and was also tested successfully by taking “test cases”. It is user
friendly and has required option, which can be utilized by the
user to perform the desired operation.
 Efficient management of records.
 Simplification of operation.
 User friendly.
 Less processing time and getting required information.
 Portable and flexible for further enhancement.
Step 10: to design a code for book addition form
