If your child is taking a different form of transportation home from
his/her usual method (i.e. a different bus or going home with a
friend or parent pick up) either a note needs to be sent to school
or a phone call MUST be placed to the school.
If there is no note or phone call to the school, your child will be
sent home on his/her regular form of transportation.
Students must attend school every day and be on time. If
you know your child will be absent ahead of time, please
send a note.
All absences need to be followed up with a note for the
nurse.
If possible, please try to schedule vacations and doctor
appointments to after school, weekends, and/or on days
when school is not in session.

folder. Tests from all subjects will be sent home in that
folder on Mondays.

let us know your child has shared his/her work with
you.
•  The folder is returned to school the next day
(Tuesday).
Where can I find my child’s homework?
You can find your child’s homework assignments and other important
information in his/her daily planner and travel folder. Please be sure to check it
every night for important information and dates to remember.
Also, please be sure to sign the planner each night.

What can I give my child for snack?


We encourage students to bring in healthy snacks such as pretzels, cut fruit
and/or veggies, crackers…etc.
Due to many allergies, please send a HEALTHY snack for your child.
Balanced Literacy Approach to Reading/Writing Workshop
•  Gradual-Release Instructional Model
1. Modeled Instruction: Explicitly teaches a skill or concept through mentor
texts or think alouds.
2. Guided Instruction: Students practice the same skill with support from
teachers and peers. Students collaborate with partners in thinking, talking, and
writing the text.
3. Independent Practice: Prompts students to apply a new skill to meet the
lesson’s standard.

This program consists of textbooks and workbooks that work together. At school, your
child will use his/her student textbooks to learn concepts and practice independently to
develop a deeper understanding. Your child will be assigned workbook pages or
worksheets to complete as homework daily. Visuals and hands-on activities will also help
develop important math concepts. The use of technology will be incorporated into each
lesson.

The third grade science units of study are based on the Next Generation Science
Standards which incorporates the Science Fusion curriculum. Each unit of study within
Science Fusion includes lessons that promote a student centered approach for
learning science concepts and vocabulary, building inquiry while incorporating
STEAM skills and at least two investigations (experiments). Each unit begins with a big
idea-a generalized concept that defines the learning goal of that unit. Each lesson
within the unit of study has an essential question- this identifies the focus of the lesson
and gives the students a sense of direction and purpose.
