The third grade science units of study are based on the Next Generation Science
Standards which incorporates the Science Fusion curriculum. Each unit of study within
Science Fusion includes lessons that promote a student centered approach for
learning science concepts and vocabulary, building inquiry while incorporating
STEAM skills and at least two investigations (experiments). Each unit begins with a big
idea-a generalized concept that defines the learning goal of that unit. Each lesson
within the unit of study has an essential question- this identifies the focus of the lesson
and gives the students a sense of direction and purpose.
