Hardware

Moore's Law states that the number of transistors on integrated circuits doubles every couple of years, resulting in increased performance and decreased cost over time. This has led to dramatic changes in computer hardware in just 25 years, from large immobile machines to today's handheld devices. The number of transistors in CPUs has increased exponentially from 29,000 in early microprocessors to over 55 million in today's Pentium 4 chips. This transistor growth will likely continue in the future, enabling smaller, lighter, more powerful mobile PCs with integrated wireless connectivity, longer battery life, and always available access to wireless networks anywhere in the world. Performance and security will also continue to improve.

"... Moore'sLaw states that the transistor density on integrated circuits doubles every couple of
years. This exponential growth and ever-shrinking transistor size result in increased
performance and decreased cost. ..."

– Gordon Moore

When Intel introduced the first x86 CPU (central processing unit) some 25 years ago, a
handheld was a transistor radio, computers were big immobile machines, and the Internet
was used by a few of research scientists. How things have changed! Moore’s Law
prediction has resulted in increased performance, Decrease cost and smaller chips with
greater functionality. It’s almost over 20 Years ago when Intel 8080 and 8086
Microprocessor has been introduce to the market, It consists only of 29,000 Transistors
as compared to the 55,000,000 transistors of a Pentium 4 Today with Hyper threading
Technology. This exponential increase in transistors has exponential increase also
microprocessor’s performance.
So what’s next! Well I think this Innovation will help extend Moore’s law in the future. We
will see in the future smaller and lighter mobile PC’s with integrated wireless connectivity.
With this wireless thing there will be new ways to interact with your mobile and PC while
on the go. There will also be longer battery life and always available wireless access
providing new rich way communicating wirelessly anytime, anywhere in the world.
Performance and security will continue to be improved. We will experience faster
performance and enhanced security. With all of this you will always be connected,
productive and secured 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
