Kathmandu University Deparment of Civil and Geomatics Engineering First Internal Assessment

This document appears to be an assessment for a civil engineering course containing 3 questions. The first question asks students to analyze a continuous beam using flexibility and stiffness methods and verify the results. The second question asks students to determine which beams in a figure are statically indeterminate and calculate their degrees of static and kinematic indeterminacy. The third question involves calculating the degrees of static and kinematic indeterminacy for a 2 story, 2 bay 3D frame structure.

First Internal assessment
Attempt all questions.
Assume data if necessary.

1. Analyse the continuous beam shown in figure by flexibility matrix method and verify the
results using stiffness method. [15]

2. Which of the beams shown in figure 2 are statically indeterminate? Determine the
degrees of static and kinematic indeterminacies of these beams. [3]

3. Consider a 3D frame having 2 stories and 2 bays on each direction. Determine the
degrees of static and kinematic indeterminacies of the frame. [2]
