CHAPTER II

METHODS AND PROCEDURES

This chater covers the following parts: research design, source of data,
instrumentation and data collection, tools for data analysis, data
categorization and ethical consideration.

Research Design

Descriptive comparative design was used in this study. According to

Aggarwal (2008), descriptive method of research is devoted to the collection of
data regarding predominant conditions or situation for the purpose of
description and interpretation. It is not simply accumulating and recording
facts but also requires proper analysis, interpretation, identification of trends
and relationships. This study utilized descriptive design to define and evaluate
the CNHS`ians compliance to bullying act. 10627.

Furthermore, comparative design was also utilized . according to Salkind

(2010), comparative design is a research design that seeks to find relationship
between independent and dependent variables after an action or event has
already occured. It aims to determine how one variable affects another variable
or the outcome by comparing two or more groups. This design was relevant to
the study because it strived to compare the different ways of students on
complying.

Moreover, quantitative research approach was used. Aliaga and

Gunderson (2002) described quantitative method as an inquiry into social
problem, explain phenomena by gathering numerical data that are analysed
using mathematically based methods e.g. in particular statistics. This
approach was very appropriate for th study because its constituted quantitative
techniques that are essential in discovering the underlying meaning behind the
students compliance level or rating on Anti Bullying act. 10627 on Candon
National High School. In addition, it also covered a larger scope of investigation
and used instruments like questionaire that helped achieve higher level of
accuracy in the result.

Source of Data

Locale and Population of the Study

The population of the study is composed of sudents in Candon National

High School who have recently committed bullying in any ways.
For the estimation of sample size and selection of respondents, simple
random sampling was utilized. Simple random sample is a subset of a
statisticaal popultion in which member of the subset has an equal probability
of being chosen and its meant to be an unbiased representation of a group. The
sampling technique was very relevant to the study because it ensures that the
sample group embodies certain characteristics chosen by the researcher
(Saunders et al.,2015). The researcher will choose 200 students who have been
committed bullying.

Instrumentation and Data Collection

The research made use of questionnaire as a tool for gathering data from
the respondents. The questionnaire was composed of one part: The bullied
experience and compliance. The questionnaire was then subdivided into three
dimensions namely adoptationof Anti-Bullying Policies, mechanism to address
bullying, Implementing Rules and Regulations. The given questions focused on
the compliance to bullying act. 10627 among students who have been bullied.

Furthermore, the researcher conducted the floating of questionnaire

themselves. They distributed the questionnaire forms and retrieved them
immediately after the respondents finished answering the questions.

Validity and Reliability

Since all the specific and relevant questions included in the

questionnaire was patterned from the 17-item Compliance to Bullying Act.
Questionnaire developed by the NSPCC. The researcher no longer needed to
conduct validity and reliability test.

Tools for Data Analysis

The problems of the said research study treated specifically.Since the

study focused on problems concerning the level of compliance into Bullying
Act. 10627 among students, the researcher employed the mean as its
statistical tool. Mean is a measure of central tendency that gives us an idea
about where the data seems to cluster around (Kalla, 2009). This method
effectively identified the degree or extent of compliance by students when
obeying Bullying Act. 10627.

Moreover, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was also used. Analysis of

Variance (ANOVA) is a statistical tool used for both experimental and
observational studies to compare differences of means among more than two
groups (Hindle, 2013). Specifically, Anova is a statistical procedure used to test
the degree to which two or more groups vary or differ in an experiment. This
tool has been very significant to the study since it helped identify the
significant differences between the types of compliance on the students
compliance.

Data Categorization

Responses drawn from the questionnaires regarding the level of

CNHS`ians comppliance on bullying act 10627 were scored and categorized
using the following point scale, range value and decriptive equivalent:

Statistical Range Descriptive Equivalent Classification

4.51-5 Very Highly Complied Strength

3.51-4.5 Highly Complied Strength

2.51-3.5 Moderately Complied Weakness

1.51-2.5 Poorly Complied Weakness

1-1.5 Not Complied Weakness

Ethical Consideration

To properly establish the ethical conducts of the study, the researchers

strictly observed the following;

The students’ identities were not disclosed in any part of this study. The
researchers also guaranteed the physical and emotional well-being of the
respondents.

During the floating of questionnaires, only willing respondents were

included as subjects of this study; those who refused to answer the given
surveys were not forced ton participate. The researchers also ensured that the
responses were treated with utmost confidentiality and were used for research
purpose only.

The researchers firmly observed proper citation of resources as well as

mentioning the correct reference to avoid copyright issues like plagiarism.

The researchers elaborated the details of the questionnaires to the

respondents to englighten them about the aim of this study.
A communication letter was presented to the respondents to ask their
permission for participating in the study.
