This document provides an example of designing a semi-circular beam supported by three equally spaced columns. The beam is designed to support a uniformly distributed factored load of 5.0 t/m in addition to its own weight. The design includes calculating reactions, shear, bending moments, reinforcement for flexure and shear, and checking ductility requirements. The designed beam section is 40x70 cm with 8φ20mm bottom bars and 6φ18mm top bars for negative moment regions, and 6φ18mm top bars for positive moment regions. Stirrups of φ12mm bars spaced at 12.5cm are also designed.

Design of Circular Beam

Example 1 (ACI 318-99)

Design a semi-circular beam supported on three-equally spaced columns. The centers of the
columns are on a circular curve of diameter 8m. The beam is support a uniformly distributed
factored load of 5.0 t/m, in addition to its own weight.
