Introduction Contracts: AS4000 Two Options

The document discusses bills of quantities which provide builders with itemized lists of materials, labor, and equipment needed for construction projects. This helps builders estimate costs and minimize risks from unknowns. Preparing the bill of quantities also allows builders to check for errors or omissions in design plans and specifications. The document notes there are two options for bills of quantities - they can either form part of the contract or not, and if they do form part there are provisions for errors in pricing.

3. Bill of quantities

General purpose of Bill of Quantities is to minimise the costs associated with tendering. BOQ helps
builder estimate labour, material and equipment by providing with quantity and sometime more
specific quality of work, thus, they can minimise the risks of unknown elements. Furthermore, the
process of reviewing the plans and specifications in the preparation of the Bill of Quantities will be
helpful in recognising any fault or missions in the drawings and specification which may raise
confusion later on or even undesirable expense.
