Multiplication/Addition and Filling Slots :


Examples :
1. Kevin has brown, black, and blue trousers. He also has white, red, green, and yellow t-
shirts. How many different pairs of trouser & t-shirt are there that Kevin can choose ?
Use 3 different ways to show your result.

2. There are 3 different ways from Town A to Town B; 5 ways from Town A to Town C;
4 ways from Town B to Town D; and 2 ways from Town C to Town D. How many
different ways are there from Town A to Town D ?

3. Using the letters of the word JOYFUL (without repetion), how many four-letter code
words can be formed :
a. with no condition
b. starting with Y
c. ending with vowel
d. starting with vowel and ending with consonant
e. with three consonants

4. Using numbers 0, 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9 (without repetition), how many five-digit numbers


can be formed :
a. with no condition
b. if the numbers are odd numbers
c. if the numbers are greater than 50.000

5. Using numbers 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, how many four-digit numbers can be formed :


a. if it doesn’t allow repetition
b. if it allows repetition
c. if it allows repetition and must be even numbers

6. There are 4 women and 3 men as candidates for President, Vice President, and
Secretary of Parents Teacher Association (PTA). In how many ways can the PTA elect
the three officers if :

Examples :
1) There are 10 students as candidates for President, Vice President, and Secretary of Student
Council. How many ways can the officers be formed ?
2) How many four-digit numbers are there that can be formed from 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 ?
3) How many three-letter code words are there that can be formed from A, R, T ?
4) How many different 7-letter code words can be made from the letters B, E, A, T, B, E, E?
5) How many different 6-digit numbers can be made from the digits of 245626 ?
6) How many different signals consisting of 8 flags can be made using 2 white flags, 3 red
flags, 2 green flags, and 1 blue flag ?
7) How many arrangement can be made from 4 people sitting around a table ?
8) Andy, Bono, Cindy, Dino, Eddy want to sit around a table. How many arrangement can
be made if :
i. Andy and Cindy want to sit side by side ?
ii. Bono and Eddy do not want to sit side by side ?

Combination
Examples :
1) Grade 11 is to be represented by 5 students from 3 candidates of Social Class and 4 of
Science Class. How many ways can the representation be selected if :
a. there are no restrictions on the selection
b. the representation must have 2 students from Social and 3 from Science
c. the representation must have at least 1 student from Social
d. the representation must have at most 3 students from Science
2) A committee of 4 is to be selected from 3 seniors, 4 juniors, and 5 sophomores. In how
many ways can it be done if :
a. there are no restrictions on the selection
b. the committee must have 2 sophomores, 1 junior, 1 senior
c. the committee must have at least 2 juniors
d. the committee must have at most 3 sophomores
3) A set of standard deck consists of 52 cards. Five cards are taken at once from the deck.
a. How many different poker hands are possible ?
b. How many of them have exactly 3 Queens and 2 Aces ?
c. How many of them have exactly 3 hearts ?
d. How many of them have exactly 2 Kings ?
e. How many of them have exactly 2 diamonds and 2 spades ?
