Petrel - LAS Loading

The document discusses different scenarios for loading multiple log files with the same curve name (like GR run1, GR run2) in Petrel, including whether the logs overlap in depth, and how the loading options of Add, Overwrite, Match Existing Logs, or Create New Log will determine if the logs are combined into one curve or loaded as separate curves. Loading options that match existing logs or add new logs will combine overlapping logs into one curve, while overwriting or creating new logs will keep logs as separate curves even if they overlap in depth.

LAS loading with different scenarios

Scenario

Client wants to know how Petrel handles different scenarios of log file loading in case he
has more than 1 same style log curve (like GR run1, GR run2, GR up, GR down…)
Depth range of GR to load

- GR1 isn’t overlapped GR2

- GR2 is overlapped GR3 GR1

2nd case: 2 logs are NOT overlapped, loading with Overwrite option and
Match Existing Logs option

Only last file will be

loaded to GR log
3rd case: 2 logs are NOT overlapped with Overwrite option – with Create
New Log option

2 log curves will be

created with GR, GR1
4th case: 2 logs are overlapped with Overwrite option – with Match
existing log option
5th case: 2 logs are overlapped with Overwrite/Add option – with Create
New Log option
6th case: 3 files with and without overlapping, Matching existing log and
