LO's Module Learning Outcomes Covered by This Test (From The Module 1

This document provides guidelines for a group presentation assessment on decision support systems. Students must: 1) Analyze management decisions at an organization and classify them as structured, semi-structured, or unstructured. 2) Select a semi-structured or unstructured decision and design a DSS framework to support it, identifying the roles of managers and defending their choices of components and data sources. 3) Choose an appropriate analytical model and defend its use for the decision. Students will be evaluated on addressing the learning outcomes, answering all questions, and meeting the specified criteria for passing the assessment.

Guidelines to the test

Test date TBA Test Time 2 weeks

The aim of this assignment is for students to critically assess the relevance of
different core capabilities of a DSS to a variety of management decisions an
design an appropriate configuration of DSS components and subsystems for a
specific management task. A very important metric for grading will be the
student’s ability to demonstrate a competence in the selection and application
of appropriate analytical techniques within model management. The
assessment is a group project which will be submitted as a report.

The assessment specification are as follows:

Each group must select an organisation and describe the following

1. Identify and analyse the various management decisions (at least 5)

made in the organisation and classify these decisions as structured, semi
structured or unstructured decisions.

Assessment_task_test_V1.0/23_02_18
2. Select one of the semi structured or unstructured decisions for which
DSS configuration can be developed and identify the roles of managers
in the proposed DSS.
3. Design a framework and architecture (components) of a DSS for the
chosen decision making process.
i. Here student must describe the type of DSS and defend the need
for the selected components
ii. Students must identify all sources of data inputs and defend the
types of data management that will be used for the proposed
DSS framework.
iii. Student must select and defend an appropriate analytical
techniques within model management for the chosen decision
making process
4. Identify and critically analyse the challenges in designing and
implementing a DSS for the chosen organisation and their specified
management task and identify and describe the potential benefits and
impact of the DSS to the organisation

Additional information

 each group size must be between 3-5

How to pass this Test

In order to pass this test, you need to achieve a minimum grade of 35%:
 Answer all required questions
 ensure that you have fully met all the learning outcomes and tasks as
detailed in this “Test” brief

The report will account for 100% of the grade
