04 Bloom's Taxonomy

The document outlines a session on Bloom's Taxonomy, which was created in 1956 to promote higher forms of thinking. It describes Bloom's Taxonomy as employing three learning domains: cognitive, affective, and psychomotor. The cognitive domain deals with knowledge and intellectual development. The affective domain describes changes in interests, attitudes, and values. The psychomotor domain includes manipulative and motor skills. The document then provides examples of how different engineering attributes relate to the domains and levels within Bloom's Taxonomy.

Theory of Bloom’s Taxonomy Domains of Bloom’s Taxonomy

• Created in 1956 by educational psychologist Dr Benjamin • Bloom’s Taxonomy employs three distinct domains: the
Bloom cognitive, the affective, and the psychomotor, which are
described as follows:
• Promotes higher forms of thinking in education
• Three Domains of Learning • “the cognitive domain … includes those objectives [that]
– Cognitive: mental skills (knowledge) deal with the recall or recognition of knowledge and the
development of intellectual abilities and skills.”
– Affective: growth in feelings or emotional areas
(attitude or self)
• “the affective domain … includes objectives [that] describe
– Psychomotor: manual or physical skills (skills) changes in interest, attitudes, and values …”

• the psychomotor domain includes “the manipulative or

motor-skill area.
