OCS uplink configuration

Overview
A DWDM node supports configurations with an OCS uplink card. This configuration is
supported with DWDM FOADM, ROADM and TOADM nodes. Support for uplink
services is limited to unprotected (bi-directional and unidirectional) cross-connects, auto
power management, and keyed operation with auto-selection of wavekeys.
The following OCS card type is supported:
• 11QCUPC - FOADM, ROADM and TOADM
• 43SCUP - FOADM, ROADM and TOADM
• 130SCUP - FOADM, ROADM and TOADM
• 130SCUPB - FOADM, ROADM and TOADM
• 130SCUPC - FOADM, ROADM and TOADM
Connection between a DWDM node and an uplink card is supported for the following
port types:
• SFD channel ports (FOADM, ROADM, TOADM configurations)
• CWR8 and CWR8-88 CLS ports (TOADM configurations)
The cross-connect provisioned for this configuration will terminate on the SFD or CWR
port, since the uplink card is not managed by the WDM system.
The following figure shows an example of the uplink card configuration.

40G and 100G OT regeneration configurations

Regeneration using 40G and 100G OTs
When required, regeneration for 40G and 100G lines is currently supported by the
following OTs:
• 1UD200
• 112SCA1
• 112SNA1
• 112SCX10
• 112SNX10
• 130SCX10
• 130SNX10
• 260SCX2
• 43SCA1
• 43SCGE1
• 43SCX4(E)
• 43STX4(P)
• 43STA1(P)
The User can provision an OT for uni-directional regeneration, using only the line
interface of the card. This is illustrated in the following diagram. Two OTs are needed at
each regeneration location (that is, one OT for each transmission direction).

Protection configurations
Overview
This section provides information about configurations for the different forms of
protection that are supported for WDM applications of the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS.

OPS protection configurations

A TOADM node supports OPS protected connections where the OPS is positioned
between the OT and two CWR CLS ports.

Figure 17-99 TOADM OT OPS protection into colorless port

TOADM, ROADM and FOADM nodes support OPS protected connections where the
OPS is positioned between the OT and two SFD channel ports. The SFD ports must be for
the same ITU channel.
For OTs provisioned in this configuration, refer the OT protection support tables in
“Optical transponder and client/line card protection” (p. 19-116).

OPS with regeneration

An OPS protection configuration can be with, or without, regeneration OT.
For OTs provisioned in this configuration, refer the OT protection support tables in
“Optical transponder and client/line card protection” (p. 19-116).
A typical OPS configuration with regeneration OTs is shown in the following figure.

Client Side OPS Protection

For client side OPS protection configuration, two OTs are used. Protection is provided
against a line failure (fiber cut or LD failure), OT failure, and power failure on the shelf
power. Client side OPS protection requires the use of the OPSB board with non-latching
switch.
The OPSB board is only used in Client side OPS protection (Optical Translator Unit
Protection). The protection mode type cannot be provisioned.
Client side OPS protection is supported in TOADM, ROADM and FOADM nodes. The
OPSB is positioned between the unprotected client equipment and the OT client port.
This configuration is shown below:

For OTs that are supported in Client side protection either with or without regeneration
OT, refer the OT protection support tables in “Optical transponder and client/line card
protection” (p. 19-116).
The following OT combinations are supported as working and protection in Client Side
OPS Protection:
• 11QPA4 with 11QPA4
• 11QPA4 with 11STAR1
• 11QPA4 with 11STAR1A
• 11STAR1 with 11STAR1

• 11STAR1A with 11STAR1A
• 11STMM10 with 11STMM10
In a Client Side OPS Protection configuration, the signal rate, frequency, pluggable
module type, and OPR mode must be same on the client ports of the working and
protection OTs. This is configured by the user, but not verified by the NE software. OMS
will create alarms if this rule is violated.
Client Side OPS Protection using two 1830 PSS shelves
For Client Side OPS Protection, the working OT, protection OT and OPS board can be in
two shelves to protect against shelf power off. In this configuration the OPS board can
reside in the shelf with the working or protection OT. The two shelves can belong to one
NE or two NEs. The OT that resides in the shelf with the OPS should connect to the A
port of the OPS. The OT in the other shelf should connect to the B port. This is the default
path for the non-latching switch. When provisioning this configuration, the A port is
preferred for the working path and the B port is preferred for the protection path.
However, software does not preclude a working path at the B port and protection path at
the A port.

Client Side OPS Protection using an 1830 PSS shelf and third party system
For a Client Side OPS Protection configuration, the OPS card can connect to one OT in
an 1830 system and another OT in a third party system. OPS card resides with the
working or protection OT in the 1830 shelf. This OT should connect to the A port of the
OPS. The OT of the third party system should connect to the B port of OPS. When

Optical Multiplex Section Protection (OMSP)

OMSP is supported in FOADMs and ROADMs.
ROADMs that use OMSP are connected to other ROADMs or FOADMs that use OMSP,
with intermediate ILA and DGE sites. DGEs are treated like ILAs for this purpose.
Working and protection paths do not terminate at either ILA's or DGE's.
Note: When a fiber break occurs, the service interruption shall not exceed 50 ms.

with MESH4 cards are not supported in this release.

Figure 17-111 Degree-2 WR8-88A(F) ROADM configured for OMSP

OMSP links are allowed within linear, mesh and ring network configurations. Only
manual power control is supported for these configurations.
Mesh and through connections are supported in OMSP-protected ROADM configurations
provided that both optical lines that are involved in the connection are configured for
OMSP. Any channel that is routed between an OMSP optical line on a ROADM and a
non-OMSP protected optical line on that ROADM shall be regenerated at the ROADM.
OMSP is supported with an intermediate DGE ILA that does not serve as a termination
point for the OMSP protection. Regular ILAs and DGE ILAs are supported on the same
working or protection leg in an OMS that uses OMSP. The DGE ILA can use WR2-88,
WR8-88A or WR8-88AF cards.
OMSP is supported in the following ROADM configurations:
• WR8-88A(F)
• WR2-88
OMSP in ROADM nodes are supported for the following bidirectional LD cards:
• AHPHG as ingress or egress LD
• AHPLG as ingress or egress LD
• A2325A as egress LD
Note: A2325A is not supported as an ingress LD.
For an OMS that is in an OMSP configuration, both unidirectional and bidirectional LD's
may be used at ILA's or DGE's.
PSS-32 is the supported shelf type for the core optical equipment used in ROADMs that
support OMSP.

For OTs that are supported for OMSP in ROADM configurations, refer the OT protection
support tables in “Optical transponder and client/line card protection” (p. 19-116).
FOADM nodes also support OMSP. In the transmit direction, the SFD/ITLB total output
channels are routed to two different DWDM lines by the OPSA card. In the receive
direction, the OPSA selector picks one of the two lines as the active path based on power
monitoring or user manual selection. Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS-32 and Alcatel-Lucent
1830 PSS-16 shelves support OMSP in FOADMs. Auto power management is not
supported for these configurations.

Y-Cable protection with Regeneration OT

The Y-Cable working/protection path can be with regeneration OTs or without
regeneration OTs.
The typical Y-Cable protection configuration with regeneration OTs is shown in the figure
below with 43STX4 as an example:

Figure 17-124 Y-Cable protection with Regeneration OT

....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Note: The following requirements are specifically applied to a 43STX4 or 43STX4P
Y-Cable configuration with a regeneration link.
• Unidirectional Y-Cable switching is supported for all client signal types.
• Bidirectional switching is supported for all client signal types when the protection
path is a non-regeneration link.

E-SNCP protection configurations

E-SNCP protection is supported for multi-line port, pluggable OTs. For this type of
protection, the client signal connects to one client port on the OT. The client port is then
split and transmitted in both the East and West directions.
E-SNCP is supported on:
• 4DPA4
• 4DPA2
• 11QPA4(A)
• 11DPM8
• 11DPM12
• 11DPE12
4DPA4
E-SNCP bridging for the 4DPA4 is illustrated in Figure 17-125, “E-SNCP on 4DPA4 OT”
(p. 17-145). Each client port (plus the two line ports) form an independent protection
group. The bridging is performed at the ODU1 level. As a result, all client ports assigned
to the working line are bridged simultaneously to the protection line.

Figure 17-125 E-SNCP on 4DPA4 OT

In the outgoing direction, traffic from the client ports is aggregated into one ODU1 line
signal, then the ODU1 signal is bridged into two parts, one for Working Path and another
for Protection Path. Both parts are inserted with OTU1 overhead and FEC code being sent
to the lines. The optical wavelengths are then modulated with WT encoder/eVOA before
sending to the SFD or FOADM.
In the incoming direction, the OT receives two OTU1 line signals (working and
protection). After FEC error correction and OTU1/ODU1 overhead termination
respectively, client traffic is extracted independently from the two line signals according
to the OPTS mapping structure determined for the outgoing direction. Then, depending
on the external switch commands for individual protection groups, or signal quality, the
traffic for each client port is selected independently from the working or protection line
port.
For the 4DPA4, the automatic switch decision is made based on Loss of optical
signal/Loss of lock, or by monitoring the following defects:
• OTU:
– Loss of Signal
– Loss of Frame

In outgoing direction, the client signal from the specified client port is bridged onto the
two line ports, one for Working Path and the other for Protection Path.
In incoming direction, the OT receives two line signals, one is working, the other is

11QPA4(A)
E-SNCP protection is implemented by permanent head-end bridging and dynamic tail-end
protection. The 11QPA4(A) E-SNCP function is realized with 8x8 matrix component on
the board. Figure 17-127, “11QPA4(A) E-SNCP examples” (p. 17-148) provides two
examples of E-SNCP configuration in an 11QPA4(A). Each client port and two line ports
form an independent protection group. Protected client(s) and unprotected client(s)
co-exist on the board.
With E-SNCP configuration, the 11QPA4(A) ingress client signal is broadcast by the 8x8
matrix. The Optical signal is sent out by the two XFPs and transported through diverse
optical paths through a DWDM domain. The two received signals are processed by the
two OTN mappers. The automatic switch decision is made based on Loss of optical
signal/Loss of lock, or by monitoring LOF/LOM/TIM/SSF/PLM/SD/CSF, as detected by
the OTN mapper.
On 11QPA4(A) OT, any one client port and its corresponding line port, and any one of
other line ports can form a protection group. SeeFigure 17-127, “11QPA4(A) E-SNCP
examples” (p. 17-148). An idle client port that corresponds with a line port involved in a
protection group, for example port C2 or C4 in Example 1 below, does not need to be
equipped with a PTM as no traffic will pass through this client port. Although the
E-SNCP protection examples shown are bi-directional, uni-directional transmission is
also possible, depending on the Operational Mode setting of the line ports.

The signal from the client involved in a protection group is split into two parts in the
matrix component, each goes to one line OTN mapper/framer for signal mapping, OTN
overhead insertion, and FEC coding, and is transmitted after E/O conversion. The optical
wavelength is then modulated with WT encoder or attenuated by slow eVOA before
entering the SFD or CWR.
In the other direction, the OT receives signals (working and protection) from SFD or
CWR associated with the line ports in the protection group. After FEC decoding, OTN
overhead termination and client signal demapping, the two client signals enter the 8x8
switch. Depending on automatic protection switching criteria or an external switching
command, one client is selected and sent to the client port
11DPM8
The 11DPM8 pack is capable of supporting 1+1 linear SNC protection switching at
ODU0/ODU1/ODUFlex level.
In the 1+1 ODU0/ODU1/ODUFlex level E-SNCP configuration, in the ingress direction
the client signal is broadcasted towards the associated two OTU2 line interfaces in the
protection group by the ODUk cross-connect function module. The optical signal is sent
out by XFP modules and is transported through diverse optical paths through a WDM
domain. In sink direction, the two received signals are processed by the associated two
OTN line Subsystems inside HyPHYAXS. The automatic switch decision can be made
based on Loss of optical signal/Loss of lock, or by monitoring associated OTN alarms
detected by the OTN mapper. The E-SNCP group contains two line ports and one client
port. The client port will be in either of the two line ports. Another client port in the
protection group is “unassigned”.
Note: Uni-directional E-SNCP is not supported on 11DPM8.
The following figure shows the graphical illustration of the 1+1 E-SNCP on 11DPM8:

Figure 17-128 11DPM8 1+1 E-SNCP at ODUk-level

11DPE12/11DPE12E
E-SNCP on 11DPE12(E) OT is a line side (network side) protection mechanism which
protects against network side PTM-related failure, and line signal failure caused by
network fiber interruption or intermediate node malfunctions.

In most respects, the 11DPE12 E-SNCP requirements also apply to 11DPE12E. However,
for the 11DPE12E pack , only inter-pack Q-in-Q mode E-SNCP (up to 32 flows) is
supported, Q-in-Q mode ADM E-SNCP is not supported. E-SNCP protection is
implemented by permanent head-end bridging and dynamic tail-end selection. The
E-SNCP function is realized within the 11DPE12 OT, where each client port or client port
VTS, and the two line ports VTS, form an independent protection group. The bridging is
performed at the VTS level. As a result, all client ports or client port VTS assigned to the
working line VTS are bridged simultaneously to the protection line VTS.
From the client, the client port flow for full rate mode or client port VTS flow for Q-in-Q
mode from the specified client port is bridged onto two line port VTS's, one for the
working path and another for the protection path.
In the receiving direction, the OT receives two line signals (working and protection).
Depending on external switch commands or line port signal quality, and VTS level
alarms, traffic is selected from either the working line port VTS or protection line port
VTS.
