Info Pack
If you are reading this info pack, it´s quite possible you are one of the 13
leaders and 57 youngsters preparing to take part in the project GYPSI -
Generation of Youngsters Promoting Social Inclusion! In the name
of the organizers, I greet you on the board of this adventure.
The overall objective of this project is to reach out to marginalized
groups by involving 28 youth workers, 57 youngsters with fewer
opportunities - ethnic minorities and migrants - and 13 leaders from 7
countries in creative activities based on arts and other peer-to-peer
educational tools that will promote main European values as diversity,
intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, freedom, tolerance and respect
of human rights.
The project has 2 main activities that will take part in Ramnicu Valcea -
Romania:
1. a training course - between 6-15 July 2017 - for 28 youth
workers from 7 organizations (and 7 countries) in creative non-text
methodologies based on drama and visual arts - to be used in
non-formal education activities for young persons with fewer
opportunities - especially migrants and minority groups
2. a youth exchange - between 3-11 September - that will gather 56
young migrants and minority groups (and 14 leaders) from 7
countries, with a very different background that will work together
for 9 days in a multicultural environment, to bring their contribution
to sensitize both young and adult persons on promoting diversity,
intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, common values of
freedom, tolerance and respect of human rights.
All activities are drawn in order to reach the project overall and specific
objectives, development – at participants' individual level – of key
competencies and abilities that will contribute both to their personal self
development and to raise their awareness on issues related to
promoting diversity, intercultural and inter-religious dialogue, common
values of freedom, tolerance and respect of human rights.

Location and other useful information

The project will take place in Romania, Râmnicu Vâlcea.

a boarding school - “The High school for forestry and environment
protection” http://www.colegiul-forestier.iplus.ro/, in rooms with 3-4 beds
with common bathrooms. You need to bring towels, we will give you
shampoo, soap, shower gel but you may also bring yours if you want.
The arrival date is 2nd September 2017, first accommodation day.
Departure day is 12nd September. If you want to arrive a couple of days
earlier or leave couple of days later, we can help you to look for
accommodation, but we cannot cover any expenses from these days.

How to get there?

The closest airport is Sibiu (100
km), Craiova (120 km) and
Bucharest Otopeni - the biggest
(about 200 km).
There are regularly buses and
trains both from Bucharest,
Craiova and Sibiu to Râmnicu
Vâlcea, we will send you the
schedule once we will have more
information about your arrival. Bucharest
From the Bucharest Otopeni Airport there are trains and busses to
Bucharest Railway Station city centre. The best way to reach Ramnicu
Valcea from the airport:
- Take the bus 780 from the airport to the Unirii station (more details
here: http://www.bucharestairports.ro/en/transport/bus); bus schedule
here: http://www.ratb.ro/pdf_statii/783/783_50.pdf The price is about 3-4
RON (less than 1 euro)/ticket
- Get down from the bus at "Piata Unirii 1" (one station before the last, is
not a problem if you get down at the last station but you should walk
more)
- From there you look for the metro station and take the metro to the
station "Pacii" (red line, direction "Preciziei") - metro map
here: http://www.metrorex.ro/Resurse/Harta/harta2016_apr.pdf For the
metro you need to buy cards for 2, 5 or 10 travels (if you are more
persons you may buy a card for 10 travels) The price is about
- Then cross the street and go to "Militari" bus station. It is about 2
minutes walk, there is a map below:
-

There are quite often buses, you may see the schedule
here: http://www.autogari.ro/curse?pid=643&did=581&zi=2017-04-
17&pas=2-0-0-0-0
You should buy the tickets from the bus station. The price of a bus
ticket is about 15 euro but you should have RON (Romanian currency).
Once you are in the bus please send me a message on my phone -
0040744395817 - just with the estimated arrival time and the bus
station where you will arrive (there are 2 main bus stations in Ramnicu
Valcea) and somebody will wait for you in the buss station and bring
you to the hotel.
We may also arrange your transport from (and to) the airport if we know
your arrival/departure time. The price is about 1 euro/km for less than 8
persons, 1.5 euro/km for 9-18 persons and 2 euro/km for more than 18
persons (for example a minibus for 8 persons from Ramnicu Valcea to
Bucharest is about 200 euro, the same price for one or for 8 persons,
that’s why we need to know exactly your arrival time)
General information about Romania and
Râmnicu Vâlcea
Nicknamed the “Country of Count Dracula”, Romania is a Central and
Oriental European country, member of the European Union since 2007.
Stretching over 238,391 km², it has approximately 22 million inhabitants
The capital – and the biggest city – is Bucharest.
The climate is a continental one, with summers generally very warm to
hot, and quite cold winter. During the Youth Exchange we wait for a
warm to hot weather, with an average of 200 C. We also expect for rain.
So you should have confortable clothes but don’t forget umbrellas and
raincoats.
Local currency is RON (Romanian Leu) – 1 Euro = 4.5 RON (more or
less). It is not allowed to pay with euro in shops and markets, but in
most of them you can pay with your bank cards.
For buying bus/train tickets in Romania you will have to exchange
money in advance, as you can buy tickets with RON only. We don’t
recommend exchanging in the airport as the exchange rate is not very
good. You may take RON from the cash machines, if you have proper
cards. You also may find exchanges offices in the railway stations.
The Romanian legal framework doesn’t allow
- smoking in public places (including restaurants, bars, pubs etc.)
- drinking in public places
- drug consume and trade
Valcea county is situated in the central-Southern part of Romania. Its
surface is 2.4 percent of Romania, of which about a half is covered by
forests and forestry flora. The Valcea county, bordered to the North by
the Meridional Carpathians has all formations of relief: mountains up to
2,200 m above sea level, plateaus and hills, valleys which are proper for
agriculture.
The County enjoys a varied geography, ranging from hills and
mountains to valleys and plains, making it, in many respects a
microcosm of the country as a whole. ounty's wealth also consists in
healing water sources and natural wonders, whose presence
encouraged development of spas.
