EBridgeII FirmwareUpdateInstructions Sys 354

This document provides instructions for performing firmware updates on various copier models. It begins with general warnings about changes to the update procedure and potential issues to check for after the update. Separate instructions are then provided for copiers at version v230 or later, and those at v221 or earlier. The procedures include copying update files to a USB drive in a specific directory structure, inserting the USB drive during the copier startup process, selecting update items, and following on-screen prompts to complete the firmware installation. Post-update steps like restoring settings and checking for issues are also described.

Warning: The Post-Installation procedure has changed. You must set LLTD to
something other than the default blank name once this firmware is installed. If you do
not, the LLTD device name becomes garbled in these places:
Network Map on Windows Vista (and possibly other versions of Windows)
Network Settings in Top Access
System Setting List

In most cases you do not need to do 08 code 693 after an update. Do 08 code 693 in
response to any of these issues:
Information about the update is not displayed in TopAccess
The system settings list does not print
The NIC settings page does not print

Because you might need to perform 08-693 after the update, you should print out the
network settings before the update as has been recommended for prior versions.

Additional Warnings
The on-screen prompts are different depending on your current version. Follow the
update instructions for the version that you are updating.
Several copier on-screen prompts are misleading. Do NOT follow any on-screen
instructions without first reviewing the corresponding item in this document.
You need to use a USB memory key that is recognized by the copier. A list of tested
devices is found in bulletins Digital-94 and Digital-95. If you use a USB memory key
other than one of these devices, the best practice is to confirm the update works on a
copier in the shop before performing an update in the field.
Print out a configuration sheet, and back up logs, templates, address books,
department codes and other data stored on the HDD before doing the update. In some
cases you need to reformat the drive after the update. Logs are backed up using the
procedure in the Network Administrator’s Manual Chapter 4 Managing the Device,
Maintaining from TOP Access ~ Backing Up Data. Department codes are best backed
up using FSMS.

Managing the mentusb.o File

The various type of SYS 300 and later firmware for e-Bridge II (e-
STUDIO202L/232/282, STUDIO203L/233/283 e-STUDIO352/452, e-STUDIO353/453,
e-STUDIO281c/351c/451c, e-STUDIO520/600/720/850, e-STUDIO523/603/723/853
and e-STUDIO2500c/3500c/3510c) share a file called mentusb.o. All the
implementations of SYS 300 and later listed above share this file, and the distributed
mentusb.o file is identical in all of these distributions.

e-Bridge III machines like-STUDIO4520c Series or e-STUDIO855 Series use

mentusb2.o. Best practice is to use a different key for these devices.

Starting with SYS 342, the mentusb.o file MUST be in the root of the USB key
filesystem. Earlier updates supported this file in the firmware directory, but this version
does not.

Based on this information, our current recommendation (as of 7/20/07) is:

Create a USB key for use only with e-BridgeII SYS 300 and later machines. Place
the mentusb.o file in the root of this key. Get the mentusb.o file from any of the e-
BridgeII SYS 300 packages: they use the same mentusb.o file. Use a different
USB key for all e-Bridge I machines and any prior version firmware, where you
have prepared the key properly for those machines.

The mentusb.o file used with data cloning is different from the one used for firmware
updates.

Update Procedure for Copiers at v230, v231, v23A or later
1. Copy the update files to the USB memory device. The firmware files go in a model
specific directory. The mentusb.o file goes in root. Review the section on page 3
(Managing the mentusb.o File) for more information on the mentusb.o file.
2. Review below for the directory structure for each specific model series:

Directory Name for Update Files

*e-STUDIO202L/232/282, e-STUDIO203L/233/283 202_282

*e-STUDIO352/452, 353/453 352_452
*e-STUDIO520/600/720/850, e- 520_850

e-STUDIO281c/351c/451c 1, 2, dlFirmWare_520_850, firmImage0.bin,
firmImage1.bin and firmImage2.bin

The file mentusb.o goes in G:\

3. Take great care to get the files for the correct model copier: the copier will accept an
update with files from a different model. The USB device must be formatted as FAT
(not Fat32). Only put the firmware files (dlFirmWare_28_451C, 1, 2, firmImage0,
firmImage1 and firmImage2) in the \28_451c directory. Put mentusb.o in \ . Do not
put the readme file on the USB device

4. Record the value in code 08-206 (Time until sleep mode is entered). You will need to
restore this after the update. Power down the copier.

5. Remove the enabler(s). Insert the USB memory device and proceed to the next step.
6. Power up the copier holding the 4 and 9 keys.
7. Wait approximately 5 minutes for the following screen to be displayed:

After the update is completed:

9. Do 08 code 947. Then restore the value for 08 code 206 recorded in step 206.
10. Power up the copier, let it come to ready and wait for the network to initialize. You
must do this step before powering up in [Print][9] mode in order to let the copier
complete certain internal updates.
11. Power up the copier in [Print] [9] mode and confirm the list outputs.
12. Check the LLTD device name in TopAccess (Admin ∷ Setup ∷ Network ∷ LLTD
