Child Life Specialist Placement January 2012 – April 2012 William Osler Health System – Brampton, ON Joined the William Osler Health System for a 25-day placement as a Student Child Life Specialist, working under a full-time Child Life Specialist to develop activities and engage child patients in the hospital. w Provided ongoing education and emotional support to in-patients and their parents, playing an integral role in bringing some normalcy into their lives during highly stressful times. w Reached out to the interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to gain an understanding of limitations prior to surgeries, taking those limitations into account to plan activities for children awaiting day surgery. Additionally, planned activities post-surgery, communicating to parents about appropriate post-operative care. w Strived to put children at ease before their pediatric appointments, earning praise from parents and supervisor for a natural ability for connecting with and relaxing children.
