Assignment 1 Questions 2017-18

This document contains assignment questions related to switchgear and protection for an electrical engineering course. It includes 8 questions in the first section about fuse characteristics, high rupture capacity fuses, arc formation and extinction methods in circuit breakers, re-striking voltage equations, current chopping, and oil circuit breaker operation. The second section contains another 8 questions about alternator fault types, differential protection for transformers, Buchholz relay operation, time-graded overcurrent protection, carrier current protection schemes, and surge arrester operation. Students are asked to explain terminology, draw diagrams, derive equations, and discuss principles and applications of various protective devices.
