FAQ – Morgan Stanley Codeathon

The event will be powered and hosted by the HackerRank platform. Candidates will be asked to pre-register in
order to participate.

1. How can I register for the event?


You can submit your application online via the Codeathon registration link provided to you by the campus
Brand Ambassadors and/or relationship managers at your college.
Your Codeathon registration will be confirmed with you via email. This is an individual contributor event
and no group registrations will be accepted.
All applications must be submitted by Friday 24th September. Late applications will not be considered.

2. How will the Morgan Stanley Codeathon work?


If you are selected to participate, you will have access to the Codeathon Contest Link from Friday,

September 25 2015, 6: 00 PM to Saturday, September 26 2015, 5: 00 PM (24 hour duration)
Eligible applicants will receive this link via email.

Special “Code Heroes” with expert knowledge of the platform and standards will be available during the
codeathon competition to answer questions. There will also be a senior representative from Morgan
Stanley on standby to assist with any issues.

3. What do I need to participate in the event?


Candidates accepted to participate need to ensure that they have:

 A laptop or desktop with power backup and with your preferred development tools pre-installed.
 Dedicated high speed Internet connection to access the platform powered by HackerRank team.
 A quiet place.

4. Reward
There are number of exciting prizes for the top winners, including:

 Special awards for the top 10 programmers which consists of iPad Air, iPad Mini and Moto 360
Watches.
 An opportunity to be assessed for an internship / full time positions at Morgan Stanley technology
division in Mumbai and/or Bengaluru for selected candidates.
 Morgan Stanley branded merchandise for top 50 programmers.

5. Is there a cost to participate in the Codeathon?


No, as long as you are a student pursuing an undergraduate degree full time, you may apply to participate
in the Codeathon.

6. What skill level do I need to participate?


If you are comfortable coding or using any language to build applications, you are likely ready to hack
using our simple, medium and tough problems over a period of 24 hours.

7. Where can I learn more about Codeathon/hackathon/programing contest?


Watch out for more information via campus brand ambassadors.
8. Can I collaborate with my friends/seniors on the solution?
No. This is an individual contributor event and no group registrations will be accepted. Anyone found
collaborating will immediately be disqualified. This may also impact employment opportunities with the
firm in future.

9. May I promote my participation in the Codeathon?


Of course – it is encouraged! This event is about learning and sharing knowledge.

10. I have found an open source app that might be cool to integrate with the set problem; can I use it, or
do I have to make my own app?
You can use open source software or create your own app. As with any open source software, be sure to
understand the license terms before you use it.

11. If I make an app or integration, do I still own the rights to it if I participate in the MS Codeathon?
No, once submitted as part of the Codeathon competition, all apps, integration and related materials will
become property of Morgan Stanley. Candidates must not test re-use, distribute or disclose materials
without Morgan Stanley permission.

12. Will the apps and integrations from the Codeathon be profiled anywhere?
No.

13. Can I view of my result?

The results from top 20 leaders will be displayed on the portal until it is paused for the last 60 minutes.
Paused leaderboard should not be taken as the final results. The final results will be assessed once the
competition is completed and announced by HackerRank and Morgan Stanley assessment teams. Winners
will be notified by the organizing team via email and/or phone

14. I don’t agree with the my outcome. Can I request review of my result?
No.
The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. We reserve the right to
disqualify any submissions that we believe do not comply with the rules.

15. How will I be notified of the result?

The winners will be notified by email within a stipulated time of the closing date of the competition.

16. What happens after the Codeathon?

18. How can I find out more about the competition platform? Can I perform a practice run?

Yes, it is encouraged for all participants, including those who have competed on similar platforms, to
perform the trial run on sample coding questions on the HackerRank Platform.
