    Farthest North Birdathon

    T he Farthest North Birdathon is an opportunity for you to Go Birding for a Cause and win prizes—no
    matter where you live or what birding skill level you possess. All proceeds will benefit the Arctic Audubon
    Society and the Alaska Bird Observatory. Organize a Birdathon team, gather pledges, join a guided Birdathon
    walk, or make a donation to your favorite Birdathon team. Support this fun event while raising money for
    research and education projects.
    A schedule of Birdathon events, a counter’s packet, and additional information about Birdathon is available
    online at www.alaskabird.org or by contacting the Alaska Bird Observatory at 907-451-7159.

    Upcoming Events with Arctic Audubon


    Arctic Audubon Field T rips, Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. T anana Lakes Clean Up
    May 6: Waterfowl Indentification This summer, Arctic Audubon will help
    May 13: Shorebird Identification clean up the Tanana Lakes Recreation
    May 20: Birding by Ear & Songbird Identification Area (South Cushman ponds). Call Gail
    All field trips meet at Creamer’s Field Farmhouse at 8:00 am Saturday Mayo, 479-2954, to volunteer. Clean-
    and usually last until noon. Bring binoculars, a snack, and rubber boots up days have not been scheduled yet and
    if you have them. Children are especially welcome. Contact Tom may be announced with short notice. Let

    Spring Road Clean-Up & Lunch with Arctic Audubon, Saturday May 13, 9:00 am
    Clean-up Arctic Audubon’s Adopted Road on Saturday, May 13 at 9:00 am. Meet at the parking lot just south of the
    Goldstream bridge on Ballaine Road. Pick up trash with friends and neighbors and then enjoy lunch together at the
    Mayo’s farm, 282 Hay Way (off Sheep Creek Road). Trash bags, lunch and plenty of hand washing water and soap
    will be supplied. Recommended to wear rubber boots.
    Forever W ild —a Free Multi-Media Show—Saturday, May 13, 7:00 pm, Schaible Auditorium at UAF
    Fabulous tales, tunes, and photos from 26,000 miles of wilderness walking featuring Walkin’ Jim Stoltz, along with
    local singer/songwriter Susan Grace. Local conservation groups will have information tables & letter-writing activites.
    Farthest North Birdathon, May 13–June 11
    Go Birding for a Cause and win prizes—no matter where you live or what birding skill level you possess—and
    raise money for Arctic Audubon and Alaska Bird Observatory. For details, please contact ABO for a counter’s

    Guided Birdathon W alk with Arctic Audubon, Monday, May 22, 6:00 pm
    Join Sherry Lewis for a guided Birdathon walk at Creamer’s Field. Meet at 6:00 pm at the Creamer’s Field
    Farmhouse. Cost is $5 per person.
    Guided Birdathon W alk with Arctic Audubon, Saturday, June 3, 8:00 am
    Join Gail Mayo for an early morning guided Birdathon walk. Meet at the UAF ski hut on West Ridge at 8:00 am.
    Cost is $5 per person.
    Sandhill Crane Festival, August 25–27
    The 9th annual Sandhill Crane Festival will take place on August 25– 27 at Creamer’s Field Migratory Waterfowl
    Refuge on College Road in Fairbanks. The keynote guest this year is author and photographer Michael Forsberg.
