EDUC 300 EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

SUMMER 2018

All the information on this syllabus is subject to change. Changes will be announced in class and/or on
Canvas. These changes will be updated on the online syllabus. The student is responsible for keeping up
to date on any changes.

COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVE

society have been futile. Hence, the purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to the

field of educational technology and its impact on teaching and learning. Historical and current

perspectives are examined, as well as emerging trends and issues. The application of innovative

instructional technologies are introduced in this project-based course. Level: Undergraduate.

Credit hours: 2.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

After this course, students will be able to:

•Incorporate innovative instructional technologies through project-based activities.

•Collaborate in online discussions about the field of educational technology.

•Articulate own perspective of educational technology through collaborative, online learning

software applications.

•Analyze educational technology trends and issues.

•Synthesize information from various texts and online sources.

•Develop a written report using proper APA style.

•Deliver oral presentation through collaborative, online learning software applications.

COURSE MATERIALS:

Textbook: Supporting Learning with Technology Egbert; as well as other supplementary texts and
handouts
Canvas Site: This class will utilize the LMS Canvas to communicate information for both content and
pedagogy. We will use it for discussions, file upload and downloads, calendars, and group activities

Google Cloud: A team drive has been set up as a dropbox for group work. This can be accessed through
the google website.

Hands-on Learning: Students will be introduced to many of the tech tools that modern teachers must
utilize in the 21st century classroom.

GRADED COURSE ACTIVITIES

Quizzes (20% of course grade): Quizzes will cover material from the textbook chapters, open book and
take home.

Assignments (10% of course grade): Students will be expected complete a number of work assignments
as homework or in-class work in order to subsidize the content that is being emphasized in the lectures.
These assignments may include work from Microsoft word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft powerpoint,
prezi, web 2.0 apps, etc.

DueDates: These dates will be posted in CANVAS announcements and on the CANVAS modules section.
Homework completed after the due date receives ZERO points. There may be multiple homework
“assignments” in a given week.

Study Time: Give yourself a good amount of time to do each homework assignment. Please create study
groups. Talking about a question/problem together is encouraged but having a person tell you the
answer will not help you; discussion will. I encourage you to email me if there is anything that is
unclear.
Attendance (10% of course grade): The TMCC teacher education policy manual states that students
must attend EDUC classes at least 95% of the time. The expectation is that your professional pre-service
training is important everyday for every class. During summer sessions it is even more critical since you
miss 2 full classes when you miss one day.

Research Paper (20% of course grade) Students will explore and write a 2 page paper regarding a topic
that is found on the ITSE website found here ISTE topics (Links to an external site.)Links to an external
site.. When you have picked a major topic then research up to 5 articles for that topic and cite in your
paper.

E-Portfolio (30% of course grade): Students will begin work on their Senior Capstone project in this class
by building the presentation platform on Weebly that they will eventually use when they finish their
student teacher. This E-Portfolio will include their resume, content standards for teaching, and artifacts
that are collected from their field experience.

Discussions (10% of course grade): Students are expected to participate in active discussions regarding
technology in the classroom. Discussions will take place on the Canvas platform and be recorded for
future reference.

Complaints and Comments on Graded Work: A student must wait 24 hours to discuss with me a
complaint or grievance regarding a graded piece of work. Office hours or a rescheduled meeting time is
the only time I will talk to a student about graded work.

GRADES

Grades will be posted on Canvas throughout the semester

Standard grading scale will be used as follows:

90-100 A
80-89 B

70-79 C

60-69 D

0 -59 F

AS a general rule grades are not curved, however, if a particular assignment shows extreme difficulty the
instructor reserves the right to adjust assignment grades. Generally speaking the highest scores will
receive A's and equal adjustments to other grades will be based off that reference point.

Student Integrity and Academic Honesty: Unless told otherwise, all exams will be closed book, and
collaboration is not allowed. Any incident of academic dishonesty will be handled in accordance with the
colleges Academic Honesty Policy and Procedures in the TMCC catalog: the student will receive a failing
grade, and notifications will be sent to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the registrar. A
student who has received an F due to academic dishonesty will not be allowed to withdraw from the
course. TMCC is committed to integrity in all aspects of academic and campus life. A full resource for
