Sheet Metalworking Lab Sheet

This document provides instructions for an engineering workshop lab on sheet metal working. The lab will have students perform cutting, bending, punching and riveting processes to produce a product from sheet metal. Students will use tools like scribers, rulers, mallets, snips, and machines for shearing, drilling, and bending. They will then prepare a lab report summarizing the process and presenting results in tables or figures. The document includes product specifications, an isometric view of the final product, and questions about industries that use sheet metal working and requirements for quality.

LAB SHEET NO: 1

TITLE: SHEET METAL WORKING

1.0 INTRODUCTION
Sheet metalworking includes cutting and forming operations performed on relatively thin sheet metal.
Typical sheet metal thicknesses are between 0.4mm to 6mm. There are three major categories of
sheet-metal processes are cutting, bending and drawing.

2.0 OBJECTIVE :
To produce a product using sheet metalworking process.

3.0 APPARATUS:
1) Scriber 5) Rivet Gun 9) Shearing M/C @ Bench Shear
2) Metal ruler 6) Rivet Bullet 10) Drilling M/C
3) Rubber/Plastic/Wood Mallet 7) L Square 11) Bending M/C
4) Snip/Cutter 8) Files

Material used
1) Aluminum 5) Tin
2) Mild Steel 6) Nickel
3) Brass 7) Titanium
4) Copper 8) Cold Rolled Steel

4.0 METHOD OF APPROACH

The students will perform a cutting, bending, punching process and followed by riveting as joining
method.

5.0 LAB REPORT PREPARATION

The students should prepare a report based on given template (Report Form). Summarize the result
and present the data in tables or figures.

6.0 QUESTIONS
I. There are various sectors/industries that involved in Sheet Metal working process. Give three
sectors and product examples that involved in the related fields?
II. What are the requirements needed to ensure the quality of product achieved using this
process?
